Great news....its working. It was the adapter the whole time. Its working with the rewired adapter. Thanks for all your help Liptonbrisk...you were right when you said the power led was red was an adapter issue.

So i wired it up as I mentioned...
the power light is gree
internet light keeps flashing
but no light on phone Line 1
and no dial tone no matter how I hook it up

yep it has a red light. I think the adapter is fried. I happen to have another one but it didn't plug in...but I rigger some wire to touch it temporarily and it started cycling and the power light was green. I might cut the wires on both and just wire them together

The setup have been working for 5 yrs no problem as suddenly about a month ago it stopped working where the phone says "Check telephone line". No settings were changed. An ATA (Linksys PAP-2T) is being used.
What could have caused the problem? Any help greatly appreciated

My wife was in Toronto and called home, Kitchener, and we talked for just over 6 minutes. I checked the usage rate (Telus on a flex data plan for tablets) and it showed up as 24MB for this conversation. I thought Fongo averaged about 0.5 Mb/minute. Is this normal?

Problem solved! I bought a Asus RT-N66U....it setup easily, found the ATA no probkem and even created a direct link to the ATA's GUI through the modems setup page. Lots of other stuff that works properly...unlike the E4200. Finally a router that works as intended.

Yes dhcp and wireless are disabled on the modem. The pppoe are blank on the modem also so it has to be registering via the router. I still don't fully understand what the issue is if the modem has an IP ... How else would I be able to access the modems GUI? I can't access the modem via the router......

Sorry I can't see how. Could you explain please? It should by getting it from the router because I don't have my ISP user name or password enter into the modem.

Yes the modem is in transparent bridge modem. Pppoe is from the router.
Is there anyway to check if double Natting?

Thanks for the informative responses! What I am worried about is that if the router doesn't pick up the ATA then the QoS and portforwarding/triggering may not be working properly. If I anable the QoS with ATA set as the highest priority everything slows down. I may be being stubborn but I still thin...

I should mention that my modem (2wire 2701HG-G with QWEST firmware) has IP address: 192.168.0.1....maybe this is where I am wrong? I just tried accessing my mode via http://192.168.0.1/ but for some reason I can't get to it ...actually if I hook up directly to the modem (not router) and do ipconfig;...

The router should show the ATA as connected all the while. Something is not refreshing as it should? The route must have the external DNS settings or it could not work but they are not in the graphic ... perhaps they are elsewhere and the area in the graphic is intended for you to define other DNS ...

I have changed the IP of the ATA out of DHCP range of the router. Still my router detects only when I first set up, and then it shows offline all the time. Now using the DNS server from the ISP (Acanac...BTW they suck) for the router....DNS for the ATA is the router. I really appreciate your guys ti...

DHCP is off in the ATA. I have port triggering and port forwarding set up on the router for the ATA.

Where would I get the DNS info from?

This stuff is starting to drive me nut...you have to be a network administrator to understand or get this stuff to work properly.
