For the dry loop, is it something that a professional needs to install? Or is it simply plugged into the phone jack?

Can you port any landline phone # from any company to your service? If so, and after the number is ported and I call my current phone provider to cancel the service with them. Will I need a dry loop? If that is the case that will mean I will need an internet provider that provides a dry loop connect...
