Re: select phone number
There is also the Google Voice approach as well... giving suggestions and/or allowing pattern searches. In some ways I understand their need to limit the amount of numbers available to a new registrant, in other ways, I wish they'd just leave it wide open and let somebody patiently choose a nice num...

Re: Can't connect to login server
Have you checked the registration times? If it's set too high, the connection may have dropped. I'm not sure how you're connecting, but if you're using your local net connection, maybe your router/firewall is doing something funny too.

Re: Voice Mail Notification Very Slow
There is a delay in the voicemail notification because of how the phone and FPL connect. It should be around 10 minutes I believe. Have you tried resetting your system (whether it be ATA, phone, computer, etc)? Sometimes that works out some kinks. Otherwise, after you screened a call, you can check ...

Re: Newbies should not be allowed to post until verified.
I'm liking the ideas here, including allowing newbies to post because usually they're in need and we have a lot to offer. I see fpl-name everywhere as staff... perhaps some of us usual forum folks can be upgraded to Moderators to help combat any spam, and current fpl-mods can be upgraded to fpl-admi...

Re: Free Canadian Calls Going Out Of Business
Google's taking over ;) Isn't that true of... EVERYTHING? lol Interesting news. I've always had issues with Free Canadian Calls... their quality of customer/administrative service seemed to miss the mark in several areas. They also got their DIDs from Fibernetics iirc, but either way, FPL is growin...

Re: Change Sticky Colour in Forums
if (status == sticky) {
background_color = #blue;
} ??
I was actually referring to the background colour, and if sticky can just be overridden to a different shade of blue or something which should be easier than changing the icons.

Change Sticky Colour in Forums
This is somewhat of a moot point... but when looking through forums the sticky threads, it's hard to see the non-sticky ("Updated/New") threads. If the sticky threads were a different colour (say, faded yellow or a different shade of blue), then I could easily see the updated/new threads e...

Re: Which phone should I buy?
This is a very broad question so I'll just touch on the different options and you can decide which direction you want to go... I'm not sure if you've already considered all this but will mention it any way. First, is it safe to assume that you're happy with the free service and want to buy the confi...

Re: My dial tone suddenly become strange.
I wonder if your ATA(?) never got the message from FPL that your messages has been cleared.
There is an option to reset this from your vmail account iirc.
Somebody else may have a better suggestion for you!

Re: Dial tone, but cannot receive or make calls
It's not too strange... the dial tone on a traditional POTS line is more or less generated by by the telco, so when you dial it hits the telco directly. Unless I'm mistaken, the dial tone on a VoIP line is locally generated, so you hear the dial tone but there's a problem with your VoIP connection. ...

Re: Headset vs Handset
One idea is to consider the longer term... if you're using FPL and enjoying the service, you may want to purchase the SIP Config file. In that case, you'd be able to use an external ATA or another SIP application where you can choose what device you want to use and could influence which you'd like t...

Re: Need to improve services
I know one of the reasons for limited rings before going to voicemail is that FPL wants to ensure that calls are answered. Answered calls means $$$ for FPL (even if it's a very small amount, but it adds up) which helps their ability to provide us their service for FREE.

Re: Ghosts or aliens taking over POTS and VoIP lines
Clearly, you're delusional and require medical help... ;) Just kidding! The only thing I can think of is if your PC wakes up on phone calls, as many often did when we actually had them plugged in for those dialup modems. If a call answered and some softphone was running, then it could answer part of...

Yikes, I've never had that problem. Steve is definitely the person to deal with on this, but if you're interested in more troubleshooting on your end: - Does this happen on a different web browser? (Chrome, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc...) - Does this happen on a different computer? - Do you have add-ins...

Re: Sip status change time
Have you actually had problems with Follow Me? Somebody can correct me on this, but I don't think it's a big issue. A client/ATA can declare that it's disconnecting but not sure how the HT-502 does this. If you unplug and a call comes in, Freephoneline will have trouble contacting your ATA, give up,...

Re: Need to choose one ATA adapter
I've never used Grandstream devices, and like bridonca said - the SPA2102 will do just fine. I really like the Linksys/Cisco devices though bridonca is correct when saying that they can really step it up when doing consumer gear. What I'd like to add though, is now that you're down to 2 choices - go...

Re: Speaker and mic do not work with FPL
I don't use the FPL's softphone right now so I'm not sure if this is applicable but it's another idea... I came across this problem recently (unrelated issue) when another headset device was connected to the computer - the program defaulted to using that headset instead of the normal computer speake...

Re: Keeping regular 911
I've had a dial tone on my previous dry loop line:
- Could NOT call public numbers (obviously) - automated message would read back to call them or something (don't remember)
- Could call certain *Star or ANAC/ringback numbers iirc
- Did not try 911... (didn't want to waste their time/etc)

This may not be a proper solution for brucethom, but you could also utilize Follow Me to your cell phone. Some plans offer some (free) long distance minutes and could be an option.

Re: no sound on both side
So it appears all incoming calls has no audio? I'm wondering if it's a router problem restricting/not forwarding UDP packets into your network.
A simple way to test is to direct DMZ to your ATA for 2 mins as you do a test call.

I can't say much about the "ruling" but I have been able to call 911 on a deactivated cell phone in the past, and had a dialtone on an inactive (dry loop) line.

Re: Destination Unknown
I realize I'm going on a limb here, but would it be possible that after Abom places a call, the connection remains open or doesn't close properly, possibly due to config on the router/etc? It would hit Abom's allowable limit on lines and then fail?

Re: Rogers Home Phone callee often can't hear me
It would seem odd if it was only specific exchanges but I suppose anything is possible. Do you know what their setup is like on their end? Maybe you can see if there's anything different that might help explain what's going on. If it's specific and repeatable, perhaps you can pm Kris (admin) or Stev...
