Please Help me for understanding:

Post by JREED »

Hello,

First, let me apologize for few questions. I am not computer or electronics and phone savy.

My friend give me Linksys PAP2T-Unlock so I have few questions before I buy config file.
If I buy $50 config file and can I be able to get free phone number with area code 403?
I do have iPod Touch so can I download freephoneline apps in iPod touch?
I also has iPhone 4 not activated so can I use soft application on that with send and receive calls using WiFi on iPhone 4 with apps with config file?

This is great forums for tons of informations and I will keep reading few questions and answers to gain some understanding.

Thanks,
JR

Yes. You can set up the account for free, and use the Windows compatible softphone. When you want to use a SIP device like a PAP2, pay the $50 for the config file and use the account you registered.
JREED wrote:I do have iPod Touch so can I download freephoneline apps in iPod touch?
I do not think so. But if I am wrong I hope to be corrected. I think there is a SIP application for the ipod touch though, so it should work with the config file, if you have a touch with a microphone.

Not an Iphone user, but if you can find a SIP app for the Iphone it will work. I know there are quite a few jailbroken iphone SIP apps, I do not have enough knowledge to know if there are legal versions.

Yes, once you pay $50 for the SIP config, that is all you have to pay for phone service.

Not sure what you are talking about with the iphone, but you can make calls and take phone calls if you use that $50 config file, and you have a properly configured SIP app running on the iphone.

Whether you pay the $50 or not, you will get a phone number from the area you pick when you register with Freephoneline. Freephoneline will not stop you from picking another phone number from another Canadian city it services if that is what you desire. Register, and download the client. It costs nothing, and it will give you a better idea of the service.

That's one great thing about Freephonline - it really is free, but since they're a business, you can purchase options like the $50 config file, etc. They're a great service, and lots of people to help. :)

Thank you so much for posting information and this forum is rock for helping out.

I have one more question, does this VoiP or ATA Adapter comes with WiFi connection? I been checking few adapters and all needs CAT 5 connection. My router is in the basement very far from my living room. Or any WiFi phone has built in ATA adapter and capable to perform all in one features?

Thank you again,
JR

Your best bet is to connect your ATA to your router in the basement and then connect cordless phone to the ATA.

Another solution is to put a wireless bridge wherever you want to put your ATA. Any router then can run DD-WRT can be a wireless bridge.

Main issue with wi-fi ATA phones is battery life + expensive.

Hi Zombie999,

You are right, Wi-Fi ATA Phone means expensive and most of the time sit on charger. Please check following link and tell me if this sounds good?

That is a lot of money for a router, and it does not look like it is even flashable to DD-WRT. Take a look at this router, http://www.factorydirect.ca/catalog/pro ... ode=LI0320

Oh, with a DD-WRT flash, you can configure the router as a wireless bridge.

According to http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

Flashing the WRT320N is possible. Then you can for SURE make a wireless bridge.

The WRT320N is a $60 router because it's default firmware was so awful, it would cause random disconnects and other nasties. Later flash revisions fixed the problem, but there were lots of returns from unhappy customers before that, thus it being refurbished and discounted. The chipset and hardware are solid, and with a flash to DD-WRT, pretty close to bulletproof. Only real downside to this router is it works on either the 2.4 ghz band or the 5 ghz but not both bands at the same time. Other than that, the WRT320N is a top tier router at a bargain basement price.

Very good choice for a router. I have a few WRT54GS routers myself, and am using them as bridges.

It's not really the Serial numbers, it's more so the model and version.

http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

Stick in WRT54

Have a look at what routers are supported and what versions. You'll see most of them are supported, just a few couple of versions.

My friend just gave me following D-Link device...

D-Link DVA-G3810BN/TL

It does said VOIP with phone line but I have to buy proper adapter.

If this works with DD-WRT connection then I will be happy camper.
