fongo travel

Hi
I have a phone (with koodo) that I would like to transfer to fongo, and I now know that it is possible to do with a one time fee. But my question is that, if i install phone go app on my US phone (with T mobile) that has data plan on it, then would I still be able to receive and make call using the fongo (that has my canadian number attached) app while I am in the states?
please help me out here!
