Re: Something new -- FonGo

Post by TheHardy »

Duly noted. Got the news release mass mailing after stumbling across the new logo and posting it ... LOL ... always after the fact you tell us these things! :-)

Now, maybe someone should do a quick update on "that" website to change the launch date so we don't have to make fun of it ... or will FonGo include the new TIME MACHINE option so we can go back and launch it in Dec/11! :P

Hmmm, that was quick -- www.fongo.com & www.fongo.ca now both display a new front page that claims LAUNCHING JANUARY 2012 ... guess we can CANCEL the order for the Time Machine ....

I saw the date change up there yesterday.

It will come when it comes, no need to rush it.

No rush

Post by TheHardy »

Maybe my cache is not flushing as often as it should be ... hmmm.

Not rushing (change can sometimes NOT be good), but was rather poking some fun at their launch announcement...

As I can read TheHardy could post to the spanish community I think this will be a multilingual forum very soon.

Well, my background is GERMAN, and my knowledge of Spanish is quite limited to a few trite and key phrases ... I wish I could spend more time and effort on languages though, as they do fascinate me ... I am always open for helping out, and a few times even stuffed things back and forth thru Google-Translate to try to offer some insight into a problem here (not sure about the end-results tho!).

And btw: welcome Victor ... another FPL'er, eh? ;-)

Yes I belong to FPL family but I don't visit the forum so often just sometimes when something new is coming like Fongo.

New -- FonGo & Victor!

Post by TheHardy »

Well, in any case, glad to have you aboard! Feel free to drop in any time and throw a voice or two to things ... you can see the kinds of things that we forum-ers troubleshoot back and forth too before it gets to the CSR's in some cases (and I am sure you have stories from clients that have tried the forums and still come up empty!)

Any interesting tidbits that we can drag out of you? I have some bamboo here that I can tuck up under your fingernails and then saturate, if you want ... ;)

Hey. I noticed this on FPL's Product and Services page.

"Coming 2012

99¢ per month

Your friends call your Vancouver or New York phone number and reach
you anywhere on your freephoneline.

Add additional Canada & USA phone numbers
to your existing account."

A new service coming up? Pretty interesting. Be cool to be able to get a US phone number.

Yup -- a little late coming to the party, but a good find.

Following along the lines of what is CURRENTLY the FPL "way of doing things" (not official policy), it would also mean that our FREE calling area will increase --- currently, we get the LCA of any city in which FPL offers DID's ... and if this holds true, we will see a drastic increase in the amount of places we can call for FREE. Nothing is written in stone to say that is going to be the case, but in looking at how things are set up now, and forecasting them, it would be a logical assumption that this will be the case.

New banner up on forums

Post by TheHardy »

Noticed a new banner this morning ...

"Fongo powers free calling solutions for a number of brands. This forum includes information and tips on all of those offerings. Note that your specific services may vary based on the specific Fongo product that you're using."

Also noticed that Mike and Kris have changed their user names ... I sense that something is right around the corner now ....

It doesn't look like the board is setting any cookies as my auto login is not working.

It could be that they didn't change the 'Cookies Settings' in the admin panel when they changed the domain over.

EDIT*
I just checked, the forum is still trying to set cookies for forum.freephoneline.ca, so no auto login for us :(

FONGO forums vs FPL forums

Post by TheHardy »

Thanks for the diagnosis on that Jake ... much as I thought, but I did not go to any great length to test/diagnose it on my own. Thanks for that, and maybe Steve can take a poke at this when he is not busy stealing the new FONGO pens in the office ... ;-)

FPL->Fongo transitition -- not so smooth (forums)

Forums fixed but calendar looming

Post by TheHardy »

Thanks for getting the forums back to functioning as normal Steve! Glad to see the moniker change has not effected your efficiency! :-)

I do note that the calendar shows 25 days of a possible 31 have expired -- we have spotted the MOVE of the forums, the banner change, and the moniker changes ... but the sites still claim LAUNCHING, and there is no change there, no countdown timer, nothing ...

Mad panic scramble over the next 5+ days to hit the launch deadline?

New POPs & DIDs

Post by TheHardy »

Jumping ahead and assuming that the launch is soon, I have a few questions (which I suppose may have to wait to be answered... or can they be answered, PRE-launch?).

It is common knowledge from the "features" page, that there will be new DID's available (ie: in new cities previously not offered). Are regular users, signing up for an initial FREE "FPL" account going to be able to select one of the "new" Canadian DID's as their primary (free) number? Or are the newly soon-to-be-added DID's going to be "Premium Only" and available as add-on's to accounts ONLY???

Another question, and forgive me if this has been answered somewhere, if we the new DID's are generally available, will there be (and if there will, WHAT IS...) a procedure for selecting a new primary number?

Example: I currently have a Vancouver, BC-based FPL #, and Abbotsford, BC DID's become available -- I wish to select an Abbotsford DID to replace (not in addition to!) my old Vancouver one .... what do I do? Will there be a migration procedure? Or simply (as I believe is the case now...) delete my old account, and do the whole sign-up procedure again from scratch ...???

Thanks in advance!

 Almost as impatient as me, huh? hehehe, who knows at this point. We'll have to wait and see what happens, I only want to see what the new bells and whistles are, especially where the new DIDs/POPs are and how it will help expand our free calling area and overall experience!

I too have been waiting silently for the launch.

If Fongo (or FPL) cannot reveal some of the coming goodies I propose that, to us on the forum, they could at least keep us posted on when it will launch if they know they cannot make it on time.

I think it's fair to say that we, in the forum, have been long time supporters and at least deserve to be told when launching is to be done on the basis that they know they cannot make the time they say.

Valid comments, and I'd like them to throw us sort of a bone too. Past experience has shown this not to be the case, however. I honestly do not know what to think of Fongo; while I like FPL, the overall service and the forum support, I find the other support lacking, and the website (& image) wanting. There is lots of room for improvement, and it isn't that there is a lack of suggestions for improvement. Thru no fault of their own, I am sure, the FPL staff here "take it under advisement" and "pass it on, and all sorts of other PAT answers, but VERY little if ANYTHING comes of it --ever.

I'll give Kris and Steve (Steve moreso lately) their due --tariff issues and other directly operational-crap gets taken care of very efficiently (but the fact that there are such frequent tariff issues speaks MORE to my previous complaint); in a way it almost seems RINKY DINK (which I know it ISN'T) and held together with baling wire and chewing gum (Which it MIGHT be) --- again that's my impression -- maybe not reality, but perception.
