FPL DSL

Post by breenmachine »

Hi, I'm looking at ISP's right now (just moved) and I've pretty much narrowed it down to Teksavvy and you guys.

I was just wondering if someone here could provide some more details on the DSL service. Specifically how is it not capped or lowered? I was under the impression Bell owned all the lines and they pretty much throttle anything over their lines. Do you guys not use Bell's lines? Or provide a router with MLPPP setup or something to get around the throttle?

Also, is the 35$ including the DryLoop fee? What kind of modems are available (and their prices)?

Thanks a lot!

Since Bell hasn't yet implemented usage based billing, we are able to offer the unlimited service at no extra charge. However, if the appeals on Bell's usage based billing do not succeed and they are allowed to implement it, then the days of unlimited internet with any provider will be long gone, unless they dramatically hike prices.
Bell unfortunately does have some throttling on all their GAS wholesalers (which is almost every DSL provider in Ontario)

Dry loop is an additional $8.95. We do not include this in the price because a large number of users do not use a dry loop and continue to keep a POTS phone operational at their house along with the VOIP. No point in charging them for what they don't use!

Modems available are:
SpeedTouch 516 - one port, no built-in VOIP, basic modem - $99
SpeedTouch 780 (soon to be 784 model) - four port router, wireless b/g, 2xVOIP ports - $180

Now, if you're in the Kitchener-Waterloo area where we are based, there's also a chance you might qualify for our ADSL2+ services. We are serving this through our own DSLAMs based out of all three KW COs. However, we have not expanded that into remotes yet, so you need to be within 4-5km of the CO itself to qualify for this service. Customers on this service are completely independent of Bell, it's our own equipment and our own network, we only pay a small fee to Bell for the last mile usage.
