Virtual PBX users not registering - let your voice heard!!!

Postby madlac » 05/19/2013

Hi all,

Since Thursday afternoon I lost my phoneline thru pbxes, cannot receive incoming calls when I need it most, after a surgery.
Countless arguing with support who keep repeating that I've done something wrong.
Found out, there are 61 users just at sipsorcery who also lost their phones and who knows how many on pbxes.org and other hosted pbx services.
According to sipsorcery admin, freephoneline limited the number of registrations from the same ip which of course renders these hosted pbx services inoperational as lots of lines try to register from the same IP.
Please contact support or write here to get these stupid changes reverted ASAP!!!

Thx

Same here!

I have a pbxes account worked with Freephoneline. From Thursday, May 16 afternoon the Freephoneline lost registration and has since never restored.

I have been using pbxes+FPL for almost 2 years, I purchased the Voip Unlocked Key, been noticed the latest Setup Guideline, but you know, being a pbxes account holder we have nowhere to change any setting variables but our VoIP credentials, I don't think we are those who abused FPL's system and made it heavily loaded.

I didn't make any changes since day 1, but from last December on, so often the registration drops! and the worse thing is no official suggestions were ever released to help us (I might have missed any), I really feel that we pbxes users are ignored and kind of "marginized".

Any helpful instructions to save us from stucking services are greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Please contact system admin at pbxes.org and ask them to ensure that FPL trunks are setup as per FPL guidelines.
To review the guidelines please visit the link below:
http://support.freephoneline.ca/entries ... redentials

This should resolve the reported issue.
For now, please setup your account directly on the ATA until the issue will be resolved at pbxes.org.

Please try my suggestion and let me know.

Thanks,

Thanks for the quick respond.

pbxes admin claimed he had changed nothing and he won't make any change specificly for FPL settings.

No offence, but I'm pretty sure the connection problems are from FPL side. part of my pbxes friends are having the same issue while the rest are OK, however the "having issue group" is growing!!

voip.freephoneline.ca is the only server name can be used by pbxes free account holders however, ironicly, voip.freephoneline.ca is right the server which is forbidding "multi-users with same IP" from using FPL services.

In such case I can't do anything no matter how many times FPL staffs saying "your setup is not following our guideline"... Anyway anyway, above all, limiting users from same IP to avoid system being abused sounds right, but it also does harm to innocent people.

Please investigate and fix the problem intensively, thanks a lot.

I want to confirm that my account it is showing disconnected since last Thursday using pbxes. After 5 days without phone line, I find this unacceptable.

I want also to highlight that if you do restrictions for users on pbxes, a mail dated from March when I buy the unlock key shows pbxes as provider. Please be consistent and reliable.

Dear Customer,

Because you purchased a VoIP Unlock Key from Dell Voice or Freephoneline, we're writing to let you know that the configuration settings for your VoIP Unlock Key are now available online for easy reference. We recommend you review the required settings and best practices for your third party SIP clients (such as ATAs, softphones, or PBXes).

Hi,

Details PMed, thank you.

I should have said "pbxes admin didn't claim he had changed anything", currently nobody by anyway is able to contact the pbxes admin, compared with pbxes' customer service, Fongo's support team is "perfectly wonderful".

While Fongo say it's not their problem, they can't do anything, and asking us to contact pbxes admin to change its setting, this is already making a "dead loop", so I have investigate by myself for the issues these few days.

I noticed that my worst impacted pbxes friends are in Ontario and Quebec, connections to Freephoneline are completely dead there (incoming calls), in BC my service is dead like 3 out of 4 days. I'm not gonna draw a conclusion but kind of knowing something, eastern Canada has majority of customers for both Pbxes and Freephoneline, only when both sides enhance their settings and balance each other's requirements can our services be restored, unfortunately I'm not so positive this would happen soon.

we could start a petition with the CRTC, knocking hundreds of phonelines offline, mostly primary homelines with 911 won't look so good in their eyes. and don't let them to trick you: this has nothing to do with any settings, you can try it yourself, set your ATA to any reg time you want and it will work, anyone with some minimal voip knowlege knows this. instead of admitting that they implemented this policy, they keep repeating this settings bs ad nauseam. the solution is very simple : just add these pbx IP-s to the exception list, problem solved. I hope they have the brainpower to implement.

I understand your frustration, but to be fair - FPL has no control over how pbxes sets up their systems. Just like they have no real control over how you set up your ATA. What they do have control over is when excessive requests for registration come into the server slowing everything down for everyone.

It never used to be like this, and I said many times before that to fix a drop out problem is to reduce the registration time as a workaround. Maybe things should have been set out right way back then, before FPL turned into Fongo and the amount of users exploded. This is probably exposed the cracks in the systems.

Anyway, they have now set out how they want their system to be used and unfortunately this kind of conflicts with how a standard Asterisk settings are. Unless you change something, you will get an interruption of service.
FPL isn't broken - you can set up an ATA following the guidelines and it will work.

If you pay for a service at pbxes the I believe they should support you. I know it might sound like "it's the other guy's fault", but if you are using an ATA and it isn't working because of a setting or two you would change it, right? You wouldn't start demanding FPL change their system to fit around your ATA.

It could be argued that FPL has put some restrictive settings that other companies have not, which is why things are not working so well on some set ups. But at the end of the day, this is how they have decided to set up their system, and for the moment it is for the good of all of us as it stops the system for getting bunged up. Yes they could expand everything to 10,20,50 times of what they have now so it can handle all the requests that is sent their way - but this is a one time 50$ structure. Personally I wouldn't want them to start charging 10$ a month so I can set up my ATA differently. I'm happy not having to pay a monthly bill, even if that means I have inconvenience of working around/with their settings.

Well, from a service like pbxes or sipsorcery with lots of freephoneline trunks, it will always look like excessive registrations from the same IP no matter what reg times they'll use (sipsorcery uses 3600/300). They should've thought about these and add these IP-s to an exception list instead of knocking all these customers offline, this is innaceptable and I won't let it go.
As per the settings, thats such a big pule of BS. the admin from sipsorcery made a little experiment and registered my line with his home identical server a without any problems. so its clearly an ip policy and I want pbxes and sipsorcery to be added to an exception list so we can get our setups back, perfetly justified and doable solution, thats why we bought the config files, the rest is not my problem, just like I can't tell to a cable custumer of ours, that he is not getting the speeds he is paying for because a node is saturared, its not his problem.

From what I understand there is a problem, you are right to bring it up and keep on the issue. I hope it gets sorted out for you, and the others using the service,

Personally I do not know what the issue is. I can only go from my own experiences. I can't see why they would block IPs, nor can I see how it would benefit them in any way. At my house here we have a few ipods, phones, computers, as well as a few trunks set up on an Elastix PBX. All these accounts go out through the same IP, and not one has been blocked because of that. I know it is by no means the scale of pbxes, but what I can tell you is my accounts on the PBX got blocked when my registration time was set to low, when I raised it they were all OK (after what I think was a 'timeout' period), and then they all got blocked again when I lowered it. That wasn't a coincidence, and NON of the other accounts got blocked, just the ones on the PBX - which is why I believe it to be a registration time problem. Simply put, I believe that if an account tries to send too many registrations they block it.

I am sure this thread will get updated as progress is made, but feel free to post your findings during your tests also. I would be interested in seeing if you can connect your ATA at home when your pbxes account is blocked. You should also forward the times of these tests onto Fongo Support so he can double check things his end. It could just be something simple, but I really don't see why they would block IPs, it just doesn't make sense. All that would do is annoy paying customers.

Maybe if a Fongo engineer (not Fongo Support) could chime in on how the block rules are set up, it could be better determined where to resolve it.

*IF* they are just counting how often an offending IP is attempting registration, then yes, Fongo should whitelist PBXes, SipSocery, Etc IP's.

*IF* they are counting how often a user (as determined from the SIP URI) is attempting registration, then yes, the onus would be on PBXes etc to modify the reg. time. Good luck with that. I tried to change it for just one trunk with no luck.

Because of FPL/Fongo's whacky rule/setup, which didn't play nicely with my other trunks, I removed FPL from my primary pbx, brought up a new pbx in a VM and FPL is registered there and IAX trunked to my primary system. Not ideal for everyone, I know.

Hi there,

Please send me PM with your trunk(s) details and I will have a look.

There are several users running pbx with 3+ trunks and have no issues.

On a side note- if you have any contacts from pbxes.org- please send me PM with the details.(direct line, email, etc)

MEH, my system works fine as is, I'm not going to mess with it. I like having the 2 pbx's now. I can mess with my FPL pbx before I implement it on my live pbx, it was a blessing in disguise for me.

As of this morning I was able to register my line at pbxes. Dr. Merle, the admin & owner at pbxes confirmed he is in talks with freephoneline sysadmin. To clarify one thing once and for all : we, the ones who purchased the config files are the ONLY ones who paid money for our phoneline, these are mostly used as primary lines and we should be the LAST to suffer because of any network congestion. The many who just use desktop or android apps never paid a dime and it's just a way of saving money not a primary home phone. Sysadmin better remember this next time before makeing a highly impacting change which affects your PAYING customers as it will be escalated much further. Thank you

I tested my pbxes account right after seeing the above update and it seems all good now.

I wasn't expecting this could be solved so quickly (I thought pbxes admin would not answer FPL's request, needless to say answering our user's individual request).

You've done a good job Fongo Support, and I apologize for any blaming on you (and FPL) in my post.

And thanks to Jake.

The problem with Pbxes.org still exists. My FPL number lost the registration for no reason today and I had to manually reboot it my Pbx account to reregister my number back.

Hi margaret,

This is to confirm that issue reported with Pbxes has been resolved last Sunday.

I have also verified your account and no issues were observed.

If you come across any other issues, please send me a PM and I will investigate this asap.

Since a few days, the issue occurred again with pbxes.org. They blame FPL again, despite we mention that support link where they had to adjust their config. The symptoms observed is a TOO MANY REQUEST error received at pbx level from FPL. Error is sporadic and particularly occur during peak usage during eastern daytime.

Could you check with same contact details used last time to check settings and rules for blocking registrations?

Dear Freephoneline customer,

Please be advised that PBXES.org admin needs to send us a request to whitelist the new IP's

http://support.fongo.com/anonymous_requests/new

Once we receive new ticket we will proceed.
