Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
Hi,
I have had bad luck using the Media5Fone APP over 3g.
It was not able to connect on 3g, but works fine over WIFI. Is there any settings specific to 3g I should change?
Is anyone having better luck with any other APPs using FPL over 3g on Rogers?
Thanks for the help!

If you iphone 4 jailbroken then you should get 3G Unrestrictor
Then you can use Softphone or Groundwire

Re: Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
I have just bought groundwire/729 codec. Incoming calls works perfectly fine. But outgoing calls, there is no in-coming audio (when I speak they can hear it)....but I cant hear the other party.
On groundwire, I noticed they have a monthly NAT bridge service to resolve this issue...has anyone tried it, or have any better solution to use it over Rogers 3G? When I used another VoIP, there was no problem either...only with freephoneline.

Thanks again for your help.
I found a workaround for the OUTGOING calls audio problem by using Google voice to take care of outgoing calls, on groundwire. Its working very well for now.

Re: Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
Has anyone found a permanent fix to allow FPL to work over Rogers 3G to allow incoming audio to be heard?
I feel like I got burned. I purchased the SIP details for $50 a couple of days ago specifically to use on my iPhone as a possible replacement for Rogers mobile voice services and it's unusable if incoming audio cannot work over 3G. Over WiFi is fine though.
I have the Bria and Acrobits Groundwire SIP clients installed and neither work.
Any permanent fixes to this problem? I know I'm not the only one experiencing it from the search results that I did related to this problem.

The problem is sadly not with Fongo, but with Rogers. It is a problem Fongo cannot fix because Fongo does not have access to Roger's duff gear.RichardG wrote:Has anyone found a permanent fix to allow FPL to work over Rogers 3G to allow incoming audio to be heard?

Re: Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
It would appear to be a joint problem between FPL and Rogers given that I can get VOIP services from voip.ms to work over Rogers 3G and I suspect other VoIP providers from what I'm reading so what makes FPL unique? Given that, I would put more of an emphasis on FPL to try and resolve the issues.
I wonder if I have a case to get a refund from FPL. It's not like I could have tested it before buying the VoIP unlock key.

It is very common over 3G and 4G networks, that when offered Data (especially unlimited data) that the same thing will occur as with certain ISP home internet. It is very possible that they do not have forwarding ports 5060 UDP, 5061 UDP, 6060 UDP, 6061 UDP, 13000 UDP and 13001 UDP.
The VoIP unlock key will work when using our products. In purchasing it to be used with a third party device, we can not guarantee it will function as intended, as such, we do not offer a refund policy.
through these forums however, with previous postings in other threads, as well as the support you are currently receiving from our wonderfully knowledgeable users, i am almost 100% certain we can help you get it working the way you want.

Re: Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
My desired outcome is to have this issue resolved - not a refund. Anyway, this topic has been around for awhile with no known resolution documented. I'm going to describe the issue and, hopefully, there's someone smarter than me that can help.
Mobile device: iPhone 4S
SIP Software Tried: Acrobits Groundwire and Counterpath Bria Softphone
+ FPL works over WiFi with no issues using G711u codec
- FPL does not work over Rogers 3G using G729a codec (codec purchased as an add-on to both software). Phone rings at remote end but no incoming audio once picked up.
Acrobits Goundwire Screenshots acknowledging the problem and potential fix:
Counterpath Bria Softphone acknowledging the problem offering to fix:
Notes:
- The NAT Bridge that Acrobits Groundwire is offering as a fix costs 99 cents/monthly or approx. $12/year. I don't want to pay the $12. It may or may not work but I don't want to pay $12/year even if it does work. IMO, the FPL configuration should work without having to use a NAT Bridge.
- Even though Bria offers to fix the problem, I tried it and it didn't work after several attempts. It's also part of the reason why I don't want to try Acrobits' NAT Bridge above.
- Using VOIP services from voip.ms and getonsip.com are successful. I don't encounter any of these issues except with a combination of FPL and Rogers 3G.
Looking for help on this. Thanks.

Unlock key - no refund
While I do believe you are SOL on a refund, you should be able to at least use the unlock key and info to power an ATA and use the service via your home network, if it is truly un-useable on your Rogers phone on their network.
As Mike stated, there are things that Rogers may be doing that are affecting it's functionality. I am not familiar enough if there is any configuration in the app where you can meddle around with the ports to see if you can get around anything that Rogers is doing on a network level .... ???

Re: Unlock key - no refund
While I realize that I can use the unlock key to power an ATA, that wasn't the "plan" and I have no need to do that. I'm already using voip services at home using an ATA already that satisfies my need.TheHardy wrote:While I do believe you are SOL on a refund, you should be able to at least use the unlock key and info to power an ATA and use the service via your home network, if it is truly un-useable on your Rogers phone on their network.

Anyway, I submitted a prior post that I'm waiting for the moderators to approve so that I can get some help in getting this issue resolved. If it gets solved, I'm sure many other folks like me will be grateful for the answer to this problem.

2nd point -- if ROGERS is nerfing things, then you cannot blame FPL for that ... period. Other providers may be more tolerant of ROGERS-clown-show IP assignment and routing (and NAT issues) but just because FPL software adheres to a tighter standard is no reason to blame FPL.
It is true, however, that FPL _could_ re-code their software to be more tolerant, but that is not the underlying problem.
IE: you cut your finger on a sharp knife --- do you blame the knife manufacturer? How do you fix that? Add a bandaid to stop the blood flow? Temporary ... put tape on the knife edge so itis not sharp? Defeats the purpose ... be more careful reaching in the knife drawer?

Re: Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
What I don't get is why is there an assumption that Rogers is the culprit and not FPL? I can get other sip configurations to work with Rogers 3G but not FPL. Yet, you say that FPL software is adhering to tighter standards. Is FPL really adhering to tighter standards or is it really not configured as per "best practice"? I'm not qualified to answer that question on behalf of FPL but it's not clear to me that you can answer that either and absolve FPL of any role in this issue.TheHardy wrote: 2nd point -- if ROGERS is nerfing things, then you cannot blame FPL for that ... period. Your analogy is poor as well...if my prior experience with other sip configurations over Rogers 3G is positive and it doesn't work with FPL, is it not logical for me to ask FPL why? Why would I start questioning Rogers first?
Anyway, Fongo_Mike seemed to suggest that the issue can likely get resolved with the help of knowledgeable forum members here. Are you willing to help or just keep telling me that it's not an FPL issue and be happy that I spent $50 for nothing with FPL? Not trying to be confrontational but that's how I'm interpreting what you're telling me in your 2 last posts.

Re: Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
Keep in mind that I don't own a smartphone or play with data ...
Main question tho--- ROGERS Rogers or FIDO Rogers ... the two networks are still treated somewhat differently, even though they are the same parent corp ... I am not sure if that would be coming into play here, but I felt it worth mentioning nonetheless.

Re: Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
Well, I was able to get Fongo to provide me with a refund. Called last week and confirmed on my credit card statement this morning. Personally, I think it was the right thing for them to do contrary to what some forum members here might say. Wish I could have gotten it to work though. That was the desire - not the refund.

Re: Iphone4 Apps for using VoIP over Rogers 3G
Well, congrats on that, in any case. At least you are not out the money. Hopefully you will still use the service in whatever form you are able to. Maybe when they get some more mobile developers and testers and are able to troubleshoot things more thoroughly they will be able to get it working the way that you want it to.
I think part of the problem comes with that there are so many variables and so many standards involved, that it only takes one small thing and/or one small deviation from "what is established" to throw a wrench in the whole works.
I mean, we know Fongo is hooped now with DV/Java for the PC softphone app, and I am pretty sure that the fault likes on the softphone side of things and not with Java per-se.

Anyone know if the NAT bridge issue will still exist with LTE on ROGERS?
Any difference if it's with FIDO?
