Number porting process

Post by bitter32 »

I'm a bit confused with the number porting process.

I thought all I had to do was to pay the number porting fee along with sending in a copy of my telephone bill and a signed LOA. Then fongo would do the transfer for me (including cancelling my phone line).

But I have to cancel my phone service myself? How does that allow the number to be ported? If I cancel, I lose my number don't I?

After the porting is completed, some carriers will terminate the phone services however we do request users call and ask about this themselves so they don't get any surprise bills down the road. Unfortunately, when the previously mentioned point does not happen we are unable to cancel the phone service on behalf of the customer, so the customer must in fact cancel it themselves. Aside from that, the process is as you described above.
