Outbound caller ID not working

Post by digaos »

HI,

I got my config file today (thanks! the waiting time wasn't bad) and I set up my SPA3102.

Everything looks good but I cannot figure out how to make my outbound caller ID to work. I have it working when I receive calls but when I place calls it displays "UNKNOWN".

I have the Block CID Serv set to "NO" under Line 1 and Block CID Setting under User 1 set to "NO" as well.

I put the device in DMZ just for the sake of it, but it didn't change anything.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you tried *68 / *67? I'm not too sure what the SPA3102's DTMF codes are for CID block but I'm sure they are the same as other linksys 3xxx and 2xxx devices.

If that doesn't work PM me your number and I may be able to get something going.

Good.

I just found something: If I call my iPhone (Rogers) I get the Unknown message. If I call my office number I get the ID working.

Any idea why this is happening?

Rogers would most likely be blocking the Outbound CNAM (Caller Name) since we send all of our numbers out, with display name AND number, it's really up to the individual carriers we route through to pass along / block CNAM.

I tried calling using a SIP softphone and also the freephoneline softphone and I never have the number displayed on my Rogers mobile.

Is anybody out there able to call a Rogers mobile phone and have the Caller ID displayed?

Is there a way to disable CNAM and send only regular CID?

Thanks,

What device are you using? - I'll see what I can do, usually by leaving your DisplayName field blank in your ATA only sends out CID and not CNAM.

Okay - And by nothing you are referring to it still showing "CNAM (CID)" on their call display or nothing as in CNAM nor CID working at all

Re: Outbound caller ID not working

Sorry for my previous post. I wasn't clear.

No matter if I leave DIsplay Name blank or not I always get Unknown when I call my Rogers Cell phone. No CNAM nor CID
When I call my office phone I get the CID, neven CNAM (which I don't really care about).

My goal is to have my CID displayed when I call any phone number. I don't care about CNAM so if that's is something that may be causing the issue I would like to disable it, if possible.

Thanks for your help.

I've noticed that too that when you call a rogers cell phone, it always comes out as Unknown and not the actual number. But when I call my home line (through shaw), it shows the phone number no problem.

We send both CNAM and CID out, but it depends on where you are routed through, different carriers have different policies and choices on whether they pass CID and/or CNAM through for VoIP providers.

Likely Rogers has made the choice to block both altogether.

I have the same problem.
The weird thing is I never had this problem when only using the softphone.

Its really annoying because when the call gets forwarded to my cell phone it shows as unknown now as well, which never happened before either.

For me it never worked. Using either the softphone or my SIP device, I always get unknown.

If I use Gizmo or other VoIP it works fine. Not sure if Rogers is really blocking CID from VoIP providers..

Of course, but us (Freephoneline.ca) being a free residential VoIP gateway we're not paying monthly/yearly to dip into or upload CNAM/CID to anyones CNAM Database - We send both out but it is ultimately up to the provider your call is routed through to pass on CNAM (rarely happens for free) and your CID.

When you say provider, do you mean our ISP? Or the person who we're callings phone company? Or something else?

Yes I should have worded that better - By provider I mean phone carrier.

When you mean passing the CNAM for free you mean without charging their customer something for this service, I guess.

I have both Caller ID and Caller Name services from Rogers, but I still get the Unknown when I call from my FPL number.

I set up a FPL line for my parents late last year and whenever they called me on my Fido iPhone, their CID always came through (no CNAM). In the past month or so, I've noticed that, intermittently, UNKNOWN displayed on my cellphone when my folks called.

Now, it's 100% of the time that it shows UNKNOWN.

It would be awesome to find a fix for this, I heavily screen my calls and now I have to be half psychic to know which ones to answer. But I am at a loss, it seems that the consensus is that the carrier, Rogers/Fido, is not liking FPL's way of sending the CNAM & CID. Does Bell do send it differently? For the most part, I see the CID and CNAM from all my other calls.

OK, I have a theory abou this... My friend has Rogers wireless too and he can see my number when I call. The only difference is that he doesn't have the name display service active with Rogers, only Call ID.

I will call Rogers and ask them to remove the name display service from my phone and see if that will do the trick.

I'll post the results.

Well, my theory was wrong.. I still couldn't see the number after removing the Name Display service... Until yesterday..

All of the sudden the caller ID started working for both my and my wife's Rogers cell phone. Anyone else got it working?

Thanks,

Rod
