STOP DELAYING MY POSTS PLEEEZZZZ !

STOP DELAYING MY POSTS PLEEEZZZZ !

Postby tanny » 02/16/2012

comon Mods, this is a little bit too much.
My Dad, is laughing his head head off, telling me that, back in the day, his old Freenet-BBS account, on dialup, was instantaneous, compared to this "GARBAGE" overly-moderated forum. !

oh and BTW, I'm simply quoting my Dad on this one.
-seriously-

Your father's freenet of old would not be able to handle the nasties that the Internet puts out now. I have a 15 year old, still active freenet account that spits out 500 spam emails a day forwarded to my Gmail account, of which GMail chomps on and digests! Another reason Gmail is awesome!

But I digress!

Though understandably annoying to newbies, moderating newbie posts is a welcome feature, not a bug. Newbie posts are moderated as an extremely effective anti spamming technique. If you post a few times more, you won't get moderated and delayed, and not be treated as a potential spammer anymore.

New members are only moderated for their first few posts. As bridonca says - some forum spam bots these days post highly inappropriate things so we like to catch this before anyone can see it. Our customers are all ages - children to adults, so we like to keep a family friendly community :)

Our mods are on the forums very heavily from 8AM-5PM EST and we try to pop in after hours too (time permitting)

How about an in-app bug reporting system so that "db519 doesn't have to keep spamming the forums"

The posting-delay/mod-approval goes away after 5-10 posts from a user, that are NOT spam ... this is to keep the spambots that pop in or 3-5 msgs from killing the forum. Yes, it is a PITA for a new user trying to post about something, but it is for the overall good ... and it is about the best balance that can be achieved given what is going on and the climate of the "internet" ...

Not ideal, bit save having to do a captcha each time you post or something, at least the moderation is a workable solution.

In waiting for the post to be approved by a moderator, please keep in mind that we are regularly online and poking through the forums. those who are more active, as well as newer users looking for help, i am sure can appreciate that when they use the search bar in the upper right corner, do not have 300 returned suggestions that include shoes, knock of jeans, etc, etc,etc (and that is just the clean ones that i have deleted in the last week)

Well, I do need a good pair of shoes, but if it is on this forum, I am sure that it would not work with my current Java version, or perhaps not be compatible with the sidewalk I am trying to walk down ... ;-) Sorry, had to do it! :-)

http://www.stopforumspam.com/contributions (free)
please take a look as it's a plugin for board forums. It is made specifically to help out board admins by stopping spammers before they even enter the door and you wont be disappointed as it does support phpbb forums.

2
It's free http://www.cloudflare.com/ (free)
Light DDOS protection and reduced bandwidth on your server and faster loading with much more protection against spam bots and net bots etc .... MAX DDos Protection they do offer but you would have to pay.

Both links I provided above are FREE and extremely helpful on any website/forum.

Cheers!

+1 on the Stop Forum Spam (I did mention this to Kris well over a year ago now). It has worked very well on a forum I am an admin on.

well, I have posted a couple times already, but i still don't see my posts/replies ?
I dunno how many times you have to be a paying-"member" -like i am already, and how many times I have to post before these forum-posting delays go away but, .....
I guess that's just the way it is around here.

Or,
How about a Forum for "real" account holders of freephonline/fango/..., so that only AFTER they log into their real "Account Login" then, and only then, they'll get access to "their" Forum, and get real more-or-less instantaneous access posts/viewable replies to this forum ?! huh ? ya.

If Freephoneline/Fongo/... still want a "public" accessible Forum (aka for all the useless spammers', and other degenerates, ...) seperate from the real-paying account Users, then fine.
Geeez, then they can "track" them all they want.

get it?
cool.

tanny,

The forums are a shared source of information. Some of the free users, are the most helpful posters (and amongst the highest number of posts)
All information is shared as this is a community driven forum that is considered unnoficial support by Fongo even though the moderators are stuff members that chip in to help.
For only 5 posts, we believe this be a very accaptable number, especially as moderators are quite active in the forums. A small step to prevent spamming and help control spam.
Also, the member data base to the forums is kept seperate from any accounts related to accounts with us, this help ensure a higher level of protection and security to our users.
