Re: change caller id
I don't thin Fongo allow this but, I agree, it would be very useful option to allow for those of us that cannot get a local FPL number. Many people that I call will not answer the phone if they do not recognise the CID number displayed on their phone.
Re: change caller id
Nope, even if you do change the number (via a PBX for example) they will still correct it to your number.adminsly wrote:how can i change the outgoing caller id..... so the person i call see the number i want him to see?

Re: change caller id
Thats what I thought happened. For those of us who do not have (and cannot get) a local number from FPL it fails to make much sense. I do have a local (St. John's NL) DID from another source that is active all the time and that is the number that my friends know (and not the FPL mainland number). It is not a big bother for me but I can certainly see adminly's point.

We do not allow CID to be changed to prevent abuse and spoofing.adminsly wrote:we can do it with all others so why dell voice does not give us the option ?

Re: change caller id
This is more important than I at first thought. How about if, on request, you changed the number where no local number is available from Fongo? You could then verify the number if needed. The way it is at present makes it difficult to use Fongo.
Re: change caller id
I don't think that will happen. Micromanaging individual accounts on that level would cost the company a lot.dibsmft wrote:This is more important than I at first thought. FPL makes money from people calling into their system (termination fees), they are not going to readily let you call out for free and get people to call you back on another network. FPL are very kind, but this would just be a loose loose situation for them. You have to remember that although FPL are much more friendly, open and contactable than most other phone companies, it is still a business that needs to make money.
Also their hands might be tied and they are not allowed to spoof numbers. Thinking about it, it would be a right mess if we could all easily 'call' from any number we like.
I understand why you need this done, I just don't think FPL can do anything about it.

Re: change caller id
I quite understand the FPL attitude, however, I am pretty sure none of my contacts are going to answer or return calls coming appearing to come from Montreal or Toronto that they do not recognise. As far as termination fees are concerned I am likely to be the only one to call my Fongo number. The provider that I have been using for outgoing calls seems to have no problem with changing the number but the provider on my DID does not allow it. It may be due to the way the Fongo DID works, that is, Fongo keeps control and still "owns" the number while most major DID providers allow you to point the DID wherever you like.

Re: change caller id
Since this is a "Suggestions & Feedback", I'll make a suggestion.
Could this be a paid option to prevent abuse and spoofing?
Something like paying a one time fee of $1 or 2$ with a credit card and a person validates the credit card name vs the wanted caller id? It could be slightly different than credit card name to allow for number of characters. It could be a form to fill out by customer, and a customer service person just has to press on a "Confirm" button if the name is similar enough. A big company like Dell should be able to program that.
