Hello there,
I looked at the inner-working of your application¹ and it seems like it would easily support g.729a² (license-based), silk³, and speex³ codecs -- all of which would greatly improve the experience of calls.
Fongo currently appears to be working using the PCMU codec, which consumes 2-4 times the data that the above codecs would.
While implementing support for silk and speex codecs on the server side require a bit of work, certainly enabling g.729a should prove easy as you have it already so for freephoneline.ca accounts.
I'd love to hear more from your team about the possibility of implementing low-bandwidth codecs.
-----
¹ Appears to be based on csipsimple, per evidence of the libpjsipjni.so file.
² Requires a license per user, which I am certain many here would not mind buying in order to reduce data usage.
³ Free usage.
Low bandwidth codec (g.729a?)
Have a great idea? We'd love to hear it! Want to share the story of how Fongo is saving you money? This is the place to do it!
