Work wifi blocking Fongo Mobile

Fongo works great at home wifi and also on the cellular network. I have an android device.
When I am at work on corporate wifi
1 I get no audio when making a call.
2. Calls are received but also no audio.
3. Text messages are sent and delivered but phone doesnt show "d" of delivered, just "s" of sent
4. Text messages are received

I assume my company is blocking fongo over the corp network. The fongo icon shows however as if I was connected
Anybody has any good suggestions (other than disabling wi-fi at work - I need wifi at work). ?
Anyway to force fongo to ignore my work wifi and just use cellular ?

If you turn off wifi, it will use 3G, right?

For me google voice works. I haven't tried Skype. Maybe it also works.
However other regular voip clients dont work I think since they use the same ports? I tried another one (its name escapes me - also gives a canadian number) but it wouldnt work either
Only workaround was to use a VPN (openvpn allows to restrict to one app). I know it is not ideal.

Have any free VPN apps you want to suggest? I've tried a couple and can't connect to them at my work. I started a similar thread a long time ago but for iOS. I've switched to Android and am still having the issue.

I've tried AFWall Plus and mobiwol but they didn't work. They are supposed to be block apps from using wifi or data (you can set it up as you want) but I looks like the issue is Android simply doesn't allow network data when wifi is enabled. It's frustrating. Doesn't seem like it should be difficult to force an app to use 3G while wifi is enabled.

OpenVPN worked for me before. You can set up per individual app if you have lollipop
