I am planning to move to South America and I would like to keep my Canadian number. Currently I am with Koodo month-to-month. I am trying to understand if fongo is right for me. I would like to keep the number from Koodo, so port it into fongo, and then while I will be in South America I would be receiving calls and texts onto my Canadian number whenever I have data, is that correct? Also, will I be able to call my friends' and family's cell phones for free through fongo, even though they don't have fongo (and they would see my Canadian number pop up)?
Thank you.

Re: Question about use case
Provided you have data or WiFi, you can make/receive calls and send/receive texts without worrying about minutes/roaming, etc.
Provided your city is listed in https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... o-network-, you can port into Fongo. . Yes, family/friends would see that number when you call and could call you at it.
Provided that places you try to call are listed in the free cities at https://www.fongo.com/calling/free/, you can make free calls. Incoming calls and texts are free, too.
HTH in making your decision!

Re: Question about use case
Keep in mind that Fongo Mobile's servers are located in Southern Ontario and that you'd be attempting to connect to and use them from South America. The further away you are from the servers being used, the greater the chance for a problem to occur. Pings, which would affect delay from the time someone speaks to the time it's heard, would increase, and it's quite likely that jitter, which affects how choppy a call sounds, would as well. If jitter and pings are low to Fongo Mobile's servers, then you should expect your experience to be better than if jitter and pings are high.

Thank you for the replies, mh1983 and Liptonbrisk.
Another question, how ahead of time should I start the porting process? Is this a couple of weeks type of thing, or a same-day process? Does it depend on Koodo billing cycles?

It should take a day, but it can take 10 days, depending on circumstances. As for Kood's billing cycle, once cancelly, you will get prorated on the cost of when you cancelled. Koodo would need a valid reason to delay, and most of the telcos have been reasonably cooperative when it comes to ports.alexibbb wrote:Thank you for the replies, mh1983 and Liptonbrisk.
