Working with my Modem

Team,

I have been using freephoneline.ca service for more than a year.

I am using Grandstream HT502 ATA.

Till now I was using ATA as first point of contact to internet and everything worked properly.

Previous configuration (that worked)
Internet -- > Cable Modem ---> Grandstream ATA -- > Phone line
|
| ---- > Intranet

I moved from using cable to DSL.

DSL provider provided me with modem and router as single piece so now my ATA is behind the router.

Internet -- > DSL Modem and Router---> Grandstream ATA -- > Phone line
|
| ---- > Intranet

The issue i am facing with this configuration is I am able to make and receive phone calls but not able to hear voice from other side. Though voice from my phone is easily heard by the person on other end.

Things I have tried till now
1) Put my ATA in DMZ
2) Forwarded port from 5000 to 6000 and 10000 to 20000 to my ATA

Still no luck.

There are 2 potential issues, both of them DSL modem related. Your DSL modem is currently acting like a router, and it is, more likely than not, an awful router. So get a good router, preferably DD-WRT friendly. Once you get a router, You can set the modem in gateway mode, or let the router handle the PPPoE login details, that should allow you for better success with VOIP one way audio issues.

Another modem issue I can think of is that the modem has SIP ALG enabled. Disable it, and if you cannot disable it, map your HT502 ATA to use another SIP port like 6060. Make sure that port is also forwarded from the router to the ATA.

Check to see what RTP port your HT502 is using, I think the default is 5004. Now if set up correctly, your 5000-6000 range should just work fine. I would personally only forward SIP port 6060 and RTP port 5004 because they are the only 2 ports the ATA needs.
