Re: linux pc client
Any news or updates on the mac and linux versions? A Linux version would really be awesome. Tried running the current client in wine and as of 1.2.25 it runs here but there is no audio on call. Oh and i had to enable driver simulation through winecfg to get audio working on startup. This was under Ubunto 9.04.
Any information would great, thanks.

I would also really appreciate a linux version. I have been waiting for this for over a year. I hope it will be released soon.

Re: linux pc client
Right now we're testing the waters to see what the demand would be for a Linux client. Since it would take our programmers quite a lot of time and $$ to make one, we'll only take that dive if there's a lot of demand. So we'll wait and see what the next couple of months bring
I believe they do have a Mac client planned, but some CODEC issues right now have it moving slowly.

Re: linux pc client
How about just making the windows version work well under wine in the meatime? so far as i can tell its mainly an audio issue though the app has a few refresh issue i can live with that if the audio portion was working.

Is there a scheduled date for the Mac client? I'm currently running Windows XP inside VMWare Fusion in Mac OS and freephoneline works. But it would be nice to have a native Mac app running.

Re: linux pc client
YES, YES!!!
A Linux client would be awesome, I am sure that Linux represents a small number of the general population using PC's... BUT it represents a huge percentage of the people that are on the cutting edge and wanting to jump on the band wagon and give this FPL service a shot!!!
I for one use Linux on the majority of my machines, and a couple with windows... it would be great to have the same experience across both platforms...
Oh, and could you hurry and bring in Brantford Ontario phone numbers while you're at it... ;P
Thanks!

Sounds good guys, I'll try and nudge the programmers along
Keep in mind they work for Vonix most of the time in Sofia, Bulgaria (hence the 7 hour time delay in account restorations etc; They work - Our time - From 3:30AM to 1:30PM)
If you have any requests to add more exchanges (Cities) please send an email with the subject line of "City Exchange Add Request" which should be forwarded to a supervisor her quite quickly!!
ALSO one of our employees recently moved to Regina so, there is the possibility of some Western Expansion some time in the future!

Yeah, Linux client would be great!
I though that the Windows Desktop client is written in Java, so moving to Linux shouldn't be too difficult (or so I think)...

Re: linux pc client
You're right, though it's not the GUI we're having issues with it's audio quality through ALSA / SoundBlaster - We need to integrate an option to select audio devices which would take some time.

I have toyed The Java Media Framework API (JMF) both on Linux and Windows to stream audio over SIP protocol (using Java JAIN API). Give it a go...

Anyone who has SIP settings could essentially use a third-party linux SIP application. I'm sure there has to be some out there? I'm not a linux guy though, so I don't know off-hand

Our SIP settings for accounts are sold for a one-time charge of $50. This is what we class as the "configuration file" that we sell.john.markh@gmail.com wrote:How/where can I get SIP settings?mindabsence wrote:Anyone who has SIP settings could essentially use a third-party linux SIP application. It's basically a one-time fee that allows us to enable your account for SIP usage.

I use Twinkle on my Ubuntu box. It works OK and seemed to be the most stable for what I needed. It's not the best to look at, but it works.mindabsence wrote:Anyone who has SIP settings could essentially use a third-party linux SIP application. I'm sure there has to be some out there? Where do I buy it? I can not find anything related on the website?

Linux client is on the development list, however it's not our number one priority; we're focusing more on network expansion and stability.

Re: linux pc client
My suggestion is download the Windows client and attempt to execute the .jar file with whatever Linux uses for Java. This method is quite a hit and miss, can't guarantee it can work, but since the client is indeed based on Java, you might just give it a shot.
Worst case scenario, just use WINE and see what happens.
Update: Java won't directly execute the .jar file. Never mind my suggestion...

Re: linux pc client
and the reason behind it not working is that the code compiled is os based, means, if we can get our hands on the source code itself, we can compile the code in linux our selves, or .. better yet, if they can just compile the code for us, we can then see if it works or not, they can mention that its not supported, i am sure the geeks in the community will figure out work arounds if there are any problems.curriegrad2004 wrote:My suggestion is download the Windows client and attempt to execute the .jar file with whatever Linux uses for Java. Re: linux pc client
The Java motto "Write once, run everywhere" is unfortunately, far from real life. As much as they wish they could, targeting another platform in Java is a time-consuming task.
The best possible way out of this is to just purchase the SIP configuration for 50$, and run a real VoIP client. Their softphone is, well, a bit bulky. You'll have a much better experience with real phone software.
