Overseas number
You may consider offering overseas number, i.e. to link the fpl number to a number in other country so our friends/family oversea can call that number (free for them) and reach us directly. I am paying CAD 40 a year for a number (just for incoming) in Hong Kong. You can also generate income from LD. I have using ata and would like to see that integrated service on my home phone.

I had a thought about this the other day which could interest you.sinot wrote:You may consider offering overseas number, i.e. to link the fpl number to a number in other country so our friends/family oversea can call that number (free for them) and reach us directly. What you could do is register a new FPL account and either set up an ATA and mail it to them, or get them to buy an ATA over there and program in the config settings. This way the calls between you would be free.

Re: Overseas number
Not cheap? You mentioned earlier you pay 40$ per YEAR to get a number in Hong Kong. The ATA that FreePhoneLine sells is 50$ and will work for much more than one year.sinot wrote:Not bad an idea.. but not cheap...
Unless of course you have MANY relatives in Hong Kong and they ALL need an ATA to reach you, then yeah, it gets expensive at 50$ a pop plus shipping
Then again, in Hong Kong, they might already have the ability of buying very cheap ATA devices.
Re: Overseas number
I think it would be 100$ (50$ ATA + 50$ config), but even so it is not that bad. Unless as you say there are lots of people over there that need to call.laurent wrote:The ATA that FreePhoneLine sells is 50$ and will work for much more than one year

Re: Overseas number
Plus with an oversea number, they can just use any phone to call. One more thing, I don't need to provide remote technical assistance
