Forward to a sip url

Post by canam101 »

Any chance of expanding the forwarding, so that calls made to your fpl number can be forwarded to a sip url as well as to a pstn number?

With my current pay-as-you-go voip provider, I pay about 1 cent / minute for incoming calls and $1.50 a month to maintain a DID. I receive maybe 100 minutes of calls per month, so that works out to about $30 / year for incoming.

If fpl allowed forwarding to a sip url, the fpl number would become my DID and I would still be able to make use of the filters I have set up with my voip provider by forwarding incoming calls to the sip url associated with that provider.

Since the incoming call would be forwarded to a sip url, my voip provider would not be charging me anything for the call.

I would make calls to Canadian numbers through fpl, and make calls to the US and elsewhere through my current voip provider.

In my account page for FPL it looks like I can only put in numbers for the forwarding/follow me setting. How would I add in a SIP address?

While it IS available we'll have to implement it into the website which may take a week or so.

Can be done though...

SIP URI is:

1xxxxxxxxxx@ATA-IP-ADDRESS:PORT

Like a regular SIP URI...

So:

15194892300@69.168.6.32:5060 would be your SIP URI.

Hi guys,
first of all thank you for the great phone service from a happy customer.

looking forward for this feature (forwarding FFL incoming calls to SIP URI) to be implemented - I think it's an important feature and it will greatly enhance FFL service and customers experience. Also looking forward for a simple pay-per-use long distance calling without any yearly/monthly fees - so I can switch my LD traffic to FFL from other providers. Also wish I could switch to your DSL high speed service - but I don't have DSL lines in my area - only cable internet :(

Is there anway to forward this to Magic Jack? This would help me out a great deal when I'm traveling to different motels with a wireless connection.
Any other ideas on how to forward me FPL to magic scrap? thanks

As far as I know, MJ only gives out US numbers, so I don't think you will be able to forward to them.

Admin posted a graphic of being able to forward calls to a SIP address instead of a number. This would be fantastic if it got implemented. I think he said about a week to get it on the website, but it has been a bit longer than that now. Hopefully it will be added soon :P

Or maybe a better idea, anyone know how to reprogram Magicjack sip configuration to run FPL? This would also work for me.

Yes that's being worked on right now. There is a little catch I was unaware of at the time I posted that though ;)

We're getting quite close to completing the online payment section and I've decided that to ease their stress levels and preserve their sanity to put a hold on this, until this massive online payment project is finished.

What is it you are hoping to set up?

I read in a previous post you travel to different hotels, and I assume you are using your MJ line to call people on. Are you wanting to also make and get calls from FPL on the same MJ phone?

From what I have read about MJ it is possible to get the SIP details about your MJ account. As I read, it is against their terms of use to use anything other than their USB box, but also read people do it. If you had these details and were willing to use them, you could load these details and your FPL sip details (assuming you have paid for your $50) into www.sipsorcery.com and use one ATA or USB sip phone to make and get calls.

If you say what it is you are trying to set up, there could be other ways to do what you want. The main trouble is MJ is a US number, and FPL is a Canadian number and it seems neither like to forward calls to the other. You could just use the softphone and the MJ USB box on the same laptop so it would be like having two phones with you.

I am looking forward to being able to forward to a SIP address. That would help me out and many others I would guess.

Is is possible to do the other way round (that is, forward to FPL via SIP uri)? I can't get my FPL phone to ring by calling 1xxxxxxxxxx@voip.freephoneline.ca.

This feature will let FPL gain a good position in the VOIP market for sure. Hope we do not have to wait for long time.

Well one of the programmers I work closely with looked through the code and it look like it is fairly easy to implement this feature.

It will be release with a new version of the website, unfortunately I do not have an ETA on that yet.

Still being looked into, but no ETA as of yet. There's a few other bigger additions/upgrades in line first.

I Hope that SIP URI forwarding fits your business model. FPL is great, but isn't practical to run on my ATA. I have been running VOIP for some years now and I really like the features. Currently I run a multitude of remote DIDs, call treatments, virtual extensions, ring groups, forwarding, IVR and DISA etc on my VOIP. I use this config to keep things straight and cheap, with kids away at school and family in other calling zones.
Once SIP URI forwarding is implemented I will use use FPL as a DID front end for all my incoming calls since incoming SIP is 1/10 the cost of DID PSTN.
