Lynksys SPA-2002 keeps loosing registration to Freephoneline

Postby mouradf » 01/05/2013

Hi,
My lynksys SPA-2002 keeps loosing registration to Freephoneline SIP servers.
I've been a user of Freephoneline for the past 2 years and recently I'm not receiving calls nor being able to have successful outbound calls.

I've enabled wire shark on my laptop then installed xlite with my freephoneline sip user account credentials to troubleshoot the problem:
I'm getting SIP message 401 unauthorized from freephoneline SIP server IP 208.65.240.165 even though freephoneline official web site states account activated (
SIP Status: connected
SIP User Agent: X-Lite release 1006e stamp 34025 )

Inbound calls: No calls is reaching my home phone number (busy from the carrier)
Outbound calls: When I try to make calls I see the invite being sent and I'm receiving 100 but not 183 nor 200 SIP message.

I called Freephoneline support but the CSR asked to post my issue as they are not handling support anymore over the phone ???

Could you please assist me on this one.
Thank you.

they won't support you cause you did not buy FPL or fongo ATA device before

if you use your own ATA device then you have to go on this forum and post question then you may get answer

Hi Segame2001,

Thank you for your reply , but in this case I think there is an issue with my freephoneline account rather that ATA configuration as my sip traces shows no registration confirmation (SIP message 401 unauthorized);

Did you see this message :

Hello folks,

Here's some additional information for your reference:

Voicemail handling was resolved the morning of December 29th.
We also installed a new SIP server and have been identifying and contacting misconfigured users where possible.

If you're still encountering issues, please send us a personal message with your account number (Fongo phone number) and a detailed description of what you're experiencing so we can investigate your specific issue further.

The 401 error you're seeing is likely part of the WWW-Authenticate challenge and response, which is completely normal to see while the ATA is authenticating with our servers.

With your permission, I could try the account you PM'd me on a device here in the office just to rule out anything server side with it.

Good morning Steve,

Definitely you can try it (I can send wireshark trace of the registration process as well outbound calls);
Let me know if you have any questions;

Hi Steve,

Did you have a chance to test my SIP account?
FYI, The SIP DID that I'm using is my home phone number, I'm not receiving phone calls nor been able to make outbound calls since 23/12/2012;
Per the FONGO_Announcements dated Jan 3rd 2013 there was an issue with freephoneline SIP server?
I've tested my account with 3 SIP UA (Sipura 2000, Polycom SoundPoint IP 430, and Avaya 1140e) and Xlite software same result from home and on another network;

Do you know who can assist me on this problem? Do I need to pay for support?
Thank you.

Hi mouradf,

If you check your call logs for this morning you'll see two ~25 second calls. One was inbound from a 519-804 number, and the other was outbound to a 416-777 number. Both inbound and outbound calls connected immediately for me on your account with no errors or issues observed.

Hi Steve,

I've tested my account at home and calls that you can see in my logs are none completed/answered calls;
The inbound calls could reaches FPL's SIP servers/media gateway but never my sipura/phone set;

-Outbound calls: Home phone set/Sipura towards PTSN are reaching the called party number but no media (RTP ports are not established) and I do not get the SIP message 200 that allows the voice apth to remain UP; I've changed my switch LAN (new) device and called the ISP (Videotron) to make sure not thing is blocking any ports but everything seems to be normal for them ;
What's strange when I dial VM access*98 I believe FPL are using an Asterisk SIP environment it DOES NOT recognize my Password/DTMF entries and it keeps saying the password is invalid;
I'll take my SIP UA to one of my friend's home (he is and FPL user) and try it from there;
I'll PM you my contact if youhave any other suggestions to share;
Thank you.

Hi Steve,

Issue is resolved but it is strange that after running this setup for more than two years I hit a glitch;
I've updated my Sipura SPA a new frimware 3.1.2(a) and rebooted both ISP modem as well my wifi switch lan;
I've added NAT to yes in my SIP config as well;
Both inbound/Outbound calls are completing now
Thank-you.
