Missing First Few Seconds
I've been using FPL for quite a while and have been very happy. I'm not sure if my issue is new or if I've just never noticed it before.
I'm running a PAP2 behind a Tomato router.
When I initiate a call from my FPL device, I hear nothing for the first few seconds. If the called party answers quickly, I don't hear any ringing and I may even miss their first, "Hello".
Everything else works fine and sounds great.
Is there anything obvious I should be looking at?

Please login into your router and under Advanced->Conntrack->Netfilter disable SIP and H.323(unchecked)
Reboot router and ATA after you made this change and let me know.
Thanks,

Thanks, I disabled h.323, but I have no setting for SIP helper. I'll let you know if anything changes.

The other thing you might want to adjust is the unreplied UDP timeout.
Change from 30 to 20.
Thanks,

Re: Missing First Few Seconds
Hello, I am having the same issue. Sometimes when I make a call, I don't hear it ringing, and then when the person picks up, I miss the first hello. I have a linksys e4200 router and a linksys spa-112 ata.
I looked for the settings you mentioned above but can't find them in my router.
Appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Re: Missing First Few Seconds
These settings apply specifically to routers that have been re-flashed with afetrmarket "Tomato" firmware. Stock firmware rarely has most of these features. Your e4200 does support Tomato. If you haven't yet flashed it, you might want to consider it.

Please be advised that you will need to check your configuration on the ATA prior to look at the router.
As long as your ATA is configured as per FPL guidelines, you should not have any issues,

Hello
My ata is configured according to your guidelines.I'm quite sure is the Fongo software you adopt from them not working properly.I'm with FPL for more than 2 years and I never did see so many never ending problems. Please switch me back to the old good FreePhoneLine. Please let me know what needs to be change in my router. Thanks

Re: Missing First Few Seconds
I have had the same problem recently but not on every call even to the same number. Until reading this post I thought I was just getting dead air. My wife made a call tonight and did not hear any ringing and suddenly she heard the person on the other end.

Can you please confirm the following:
1. Keep alive is enabled on your ATA
2. Preferred codec is G711u on the ATA
3. SIP ALG is disabled on your router
The issue you are describing is most likely cause by a network issue (NAT conflict) at your end.
Please let me know.
Thanks,

Re: Missing First Few Seconds
I did all the settings as suggested in the mentioned file for PAP2T. I still do not hear phone ringing when I call outside Freephoneline customers.Fongo Support wrote:Hi there, samcro wrote:Can anybody from staff confirm the NAT setting in PAP2 ATA as per attachment. Thank you

Thanks,
When I call Fongo or Freephoneline customers is OK. When I call Bell or others I do not hear the ringing, only when the voice on the other line picks up.
Should I disable SIP from the Linksys E4200???
Please advise. Thanks

If your still having problems with your router, i recommend you to check out DD-WRT firmware

Re: Missing First Few Seconds
This past week, I'm getting this same problem as others here. It's an intermittent problem though. Sometimes it works, other times not. About 50/50 chance of it happening. (problem being, I dial out, and sometimes I don't hear a ring tone, just silence, but my phone finally just connects when the other person picks up, and then we can talk fine).
I tried resetting my ATA (OBi100), but to no avail. My Obi100 is configured according to the new FPL requirements. My DSL modem/router is a TP-Link TD-8841 (not the Trendchipset version, but the Broadcom version). It has the latest bios version on it. There is no ALG setting on it (nor is it accessible through Telnet). The problem sure is a mystery to me as to why this is happening to my set-up as well. I also tried opening a port (UDP 5060) on my DSL/router, but that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas? Thanks.
