I have a problem with my line and I touched nothing

Post by destrock »

Hi, I came here, in the past, for helping me configure my Grandstream ATA and make everything work correctly. It was working perfectly fine but since a couple months, it's just half working. Maybe this is super easy to fix but I have no idea what to do. If you need it, my old thread is this one : viewtopic.php?f=15&t=19942

My problem :

When someone call me, I some time receive the call (I physically hear my phone ring) but I some time don't.

Yesterday, the hospital called me for an important rendez-vous and it never rang. The secretary called me again, a couple hours after, and I received the call. She asked me why I didn't call back and if I listened her message. Many hours later, when I came back home, I noticed that I received an email from Freephoneline with her message inside. I was able to download the audio file and listen to her. It isn't supposed to act this way. On my phone, physically, I have a (I don't remember the word in English, an "answering machine" ? People can leave their messages directly on my phone, physically. It's supposed to go there, not online. I think I did the *98 in the past and made myself an answering message and since my old thread dating of 11/27/2020 I think I received 2 or 3 messages online inside an audio file. They are supposed to go to my phone only and I'm supposed to hear it ring.

And it wasn't an isolated case. A couple months ago, my banq was unable to call me, I had to call them back and the girl said she tried many times to call me.

Also, just in case this is important. When I unhook my phone and listen I hear a wierd sound. It doesn't directly go on a "bbbiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" It does some kind of "bibibibibibibibibibibiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" as if it has difficulties to connect.

A couple months ago, maybe a year, I don't remember, I received an email from Freephoneline asking me to change a setting. If I remember right, the setting in question was already set the right way. And I touched nothing else since 11/27/2020

And out of subject, I'm curious, in the past, I had no phone line at all and no cellphone. If I have a phone right now that's because my friend gave me the permission to use his personal phone number (because we are forced to have one in order to make an account). I then bought myself the ATA at 50$ on Amazon and for the 100$, for the line, I'm not sure if I paid it myself or if I had to give it to my friend and he sent the money himself to Freephoneline but right now, his phone number is still set on my account, I still have no cellphone and I'm not planning to buy one and my friend is no more my friend. Can I remove this number from my account or should I absolutely not do so or risk losing my phone line? The email set on the account is mine but I don't want to lose my phone line. But at the same time, maybe Freephoneline will call him one day and he will remember I'm set on his phone number. Now that we are no more friend, maybe he will ask Freephoneline to cut me...

On March 13th, before 12 p.m. EST, voip.freephoneline.ca wasn't working properly. All incoming calls, when using that server, were going to straight to voicemail. The March 13th issue is now resolved.

I suggest switching to voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060

NAT corruption can also develop between a router and ATA without a user doing anything.

Click viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20539 and follow the steps, step by step down the list. Especially do the WinMTR test when problems occur in step 19 and also read step 20.

There's no way to completely avoid Freephoneline's voicemail system. When your ATA is offline, not registered, or if there's a problem with the proxy server being used (voip.freephoneline.ca, for example) incoming calls will go straight to Freephoneline's voicemail system.

It does some kind of "bibibibibibibibibibibiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" as if it has difficulties to connect.
That's normal. Stutter tone is normal when you have voicemail waiting on Freephoneline's voicemail system.

It can take up to 10 minutes for the stutter tone to be heard after a message is left and up to 10 minutes to disappear after all Freephoneline voicemail messages are deleted.

You can also check voicemails by logging in at https://www.freephoneline.ca/mailbox.

I don't know what you mean by "set on his phone number". However, FPL doesn't allow selling of its services to others.

https://www.freephoneline.ca/terms
"4.1 The Customer shall not resell the Services, or otherwise make the Services available to third parties for value."

The only ways to change your Freephoneline account phone number is be porting a new one into your FPL account for $25+tax or by making a request: https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en- ... are-moving

Edit : no bb codes are working for some reason. My reply look like a mess

Hi, thx for the reply. I'm currently having a pulmonary embolism and I'll try not stressing too much for a couple days. I'll check this long list to do in the coming days or weeks to come.

Are you suggesting me to go on voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 permanently or only when the service is down ? And about this NAT corruption, I don't understand what it is. Is this permanent ? Do I have to verify if my settings changed automatically ?

About how many time per year, on average, is the service down ? Yesterday, when I checked the options on my phone, I noticed I missed 4-6 calls in the last months, up to June and I'm a no life, I live in my grotto, I go outside about twice per month, I have no friend, no family, almost nobody in the whole world has to call me. This service seem to be down often, no ?

Well, I have a problem then. It's not doing it right now for some reason but I never have a voicemail waiting and it always does it.

But at the same time, maybe Freephoneline will call him one day and he will remember I'm set on his phone number. Now that we are no more friend, maybe he will ask Freephoneline to cut me...

On the freephoneline website, when we click on "account settings" and my friend didn't resell the service to me I simply had no access to buy it myself at all and I gave him only the money it was costing and he showed me the invoice as proof (I think, probably, maybe I was able to send the money to Freephoneline myself and I only needed his phone number, I don't remember much after so many years). It's phone IP they can see we don't live in the same town. They can see I was the one to select the desired phone number, not him, they probably have the ip I used when I created my account, an ip with my email... and hes probably still a good Fongo client. To my knowledge, he did this only with me, because I'm one of the very few weirdo on this planet with a tin foil helmet that refuse to buy a cellphone

I hope you recover quickly.
Are you suggesting me to go on voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 permanently
Yes

Using voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 can help to circumvent potential SIP ALG issues.
Also voip.freephoneline.ca encounters problems more often (still very infrequently) over the past several years compared to voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060
And about this NAT corruption, I don't understand what it is.
Refer to the UDP timeout discussion in step 20 from the link I provided previously: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20539.

This service seem to be down often, no ?
No. But intermittent internet outages or unreliable routing to FPL’s servers can present problems, which is why running the WinMTR test when you do have problems can help discover where the issue is.

voip.freephoneline.ca tends to encounter issues more frequently than the other two FPL servers, but it hasn’t been down often.

Well, I have a problem then. It's not doing it right now
If you don’t have a stutter tone while you don’t have FPL voicemail, that’s not a problem.

Again, you need to wait up to 10 minutes after deleting all voicemail for the stutter tone to disappear.
If you get a fax message, the only way to delete it is by logging in at https://www.freephoneline.ca/mailbox.

On the freephoneline website, when we click on "account settings"
Provided you are the legitimate owner of the FPL account, you can change the contact number to whatever you want.
If you have further account questions, you can ask Fongo: https://support.fongo.com/hc/requests/new. Choose “My Account Inquiry”. Ticket responses can take up to a week (Visit https://status.fongo.com/, and refer to "Support System"). Beyond what I’ve mentioned I have no further information. I don’t work for Fongo and don’t have access to your account.
