Obi VoIP adapter no longer registering with FPL
I posted a new topic yesterday but suspiciously it just disappeared into thin air. Is anyone else that uses an Obi adapter having problems connecting to freephoneline all of a sudden? It was working fine for quite some time but then all of a sudden out of nowhere it's not connecting to FPL's server anymore. I'm not sure if Obi changed something or if FPL did.

Re: Obi VoIP adapter no longer registering with FPL
I followed your suggestions in your reply to my previous post and I can get registered but I can't make any calls. There is no dial tone. Rogers must have changed something. I factory reset my Rogers modem but no change. I think I'll buy my own router so I can disable sip/alg. I think Rogers likes to make things difficult for VoIP users. They're hoping they sign up with their home phone service instead. Another question I have is there was a recommendation for those with Rogers CGN3 modems to use voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060. Should it be voip4.freephoneline.ca and 6060 separately in the appropriate incoming and outgoing proxy server fields?Liptonbrisk wrote:billcanada wrote:I posted a new topic yesterday but suspiciously it just disappeared into thin air. Make sure that you see power LED shows solid GREEN. Then try to call **9 222-222-222 to reach the Echo Test Server.billcanada wrote:

Hopefully, both conditions are met.
For now, avoid Netgear routers with FPL and Obihai ATAs unless you're willing to use 3rd party firmware, such as XWRT-Vortex or Tomato. There may be a work-around, but for now, I would just avoid Netgear with Obihai ATAs and FPL.Rogers must have changed something. I factory reset my Rogers modem but no change. I think I'll buy my own router so I can disable sip/alg.
Their modem/router combos have SIP ALG enabled with no way for the customer to disabled it by him or herself. Using voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 is one method of attempting to circumvent the faulty SIP ALG feature in the router.I think Rogers likes to make things difficult for VoIP users. They're hoping they sign up with their home phone service instead.
To better understand why SIP ALG is horrible visit http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Routers+SIP+ALG and read. Although SIP ALG is not broken in all routers (for example, the SIP Passthrough function in Asus routers doesn't seem to affect FPL), it is broken in a lot of them.

I would also strongly urge you to visit http://forums.redflagdeals.com/newegg-o ... #p26724395
At the very least, read step 2 and do steps 3,4,10, and 12 from that link. If you're interested you might want to read the section on Rogers in that link as well.
Step 1 isn't necessary if you were never port forwarding to begin with.

They are all solid green. I called **9 222-222-222 and I was able to reach the echo test server and hear my voice. There is a dial tone but when I dial a number all I hear is silence even though the 2nd and 3rd LED lights are flashing.

Okay, good. At least your ATA works.billcanada wrote:They are all solid green. I called **9 222-222-222 and I was able to reach the echo test server and hear my voice.

That grey cog wheel with the "E" is for the expert configuration menu.
It shows when logging in at http://www.obitalk.com, selecting "Edit Profile" on the left, then scrolling down
under "Advanced Options" and finally selecting "Enable OBi Expert Entry from Dashboard."

Re: Obi VoIP adapter no longer registering with FPL
Thanks for the tip. I didn't have an OBi Expert Configuration entry on my dashboard. I was wondering what you were talking about before when you said to click on the "E". What a pain in the ass it was getting into the advanced configuration menu before. Phew!

Re: Obi VoIP adapter no longer registering with FPL
Okay, I followed those steps below and progress was made. I could dial out and place a call. That person could hear me talk but I couldn't hear them talk. I checked the SIP settings again and there was nothing in the OutboundProxy field so I entered voip.freephoneline.ca and I can hear the person on the other end of the phone now. I think I tried voip4.freephoneline.ca in the OutboundProxy field before but then my adapter wouldn't register again so I deleted it. I also tried replacing all fields with 5060 to 6060 but I think only certain fields are required to be 6060 so I changed the other ones back to 5060. I don't know if that would have made any difference or not. The OBi interface is quite complicated compared to other ATA adapters. I think my OBi worked before because I had opened a port in my modem which I heard was not a good idea. Also, a Grandstream adapter worked fine with the regular settings but the OBi wouldn't work. Interesting because the SIP/ALG in Hitron CGN3 modems are enabled so the OBi ATA was affected but the Grandstream ATA wasn't.

Re: Obi VoIP adapter no longer registering with FPL
There doesn't have to be. I've setup this service before for several people using the exact same router/modem combo on Rogers.billcanada wrote:Okay, I followed those steps below and progress was made. The settings here are (mostly) correct: http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16196
And I own an OBi202. With FPL, OutboundProxy doesn't need to be specified.
That's not normal.in the OutboundProxy field so I entered voip.freephoneline.ca and I can hear the person on the other end of the phone now
I'm wondering if the settings I told you to change before just took awhile to be pushed from the Obitalk.com website to your ATA.
The setting changes do take a little while. It's not instantaneous.
The values on page 3 of the .pdf from here are correct: http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16196I also tried replacing all fields with 5060 to 6060 but I think only certain fields are required to be 6060 so I changed the other ones back to 5060.
voip.freephoneline.ca and voip2.freephoneline.ca use UDP port 5060 for RegistrarServerPort and ProxyServerPortI don't know if that would have made any difference or not.
voip4.freephoneline.ca uses UDP port 6060 for RegistrarServerPort and ProxyServerPort
Anyway, if things are working for you, that's good.
