437 area code not valid for call forwarding & contact number

Post by frto »

I have a phone number with 437 area code. When I try to enter it in "Follow Me Numbers" in the Follow Me settings I get an error message "The FollowMe number you have entered is not valid!" When I try entering it as the the "Contact Number" under Account Settings I get an error message "Invalid contact number. The contact number must be a valid Canadian phone number." What is the reason for this? The 437 area code started being used in Toronto in 2013

Is there a way to fix this?

I just entered a 437 number without any issues. Make sure there's no "-" listed. That is, enter your number as 4371234567

According to http://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en-u ... Follow-Me-, you can't forward to other FPL numbers.

Otherwise, submit a ticket with a description of the problem, and provide them with the full phone number: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.
If no responds to your support ticket, provide the ticket number in a private message to Fongo Support: http://forum.fongo.com/ucp.php?i=pm&mode=compose&u=7852.
Please do not send me emails; I do not work for nor represent Freephoneline or Fongo. Post questions on the forums so that others may learn from responses or assist you. Thank you. If you have an issue with your account or have a billing issue, submit a ticket here: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. The number was entered without any dashes. It is not a FPL number. I just tried it again and got the same error messages.

I was also not able to submit a ticket as instructed above. I don't know if they offer that support for the Freephoneline website. When I click on the submit button it just shows me a FAQ page. Clicking the button to submit a ticket on that page just brings me back to the ticket page with the fields blanked out. Filling out the form and submitting just brings you back to the page. I have sent a private message to Fongo Support.

They do since it's unrelated to device configuration. Technical support for device configuration is not free.

Try a different browser, or clear your browser cache and cookies and try again.
Choose whether you have a VoIP unlock key or Freephoneline Desktop app. Then choose "My account inquiry" for the issue type.

Ok I think I was able to submit a ticket by using Freephoneline Desktop app and My account inquiry as the options. I received an email with ticket number. Changing the browser did not have any effect.

I'm glad you were able to submit a ticket. FPL support staff doesn't typically respond to tickets on weekends, by the way. You may need to wait a few days for a response.

Yes they responded. Also, the other tickets I tried to submit ended up generating tickets but delayed until the early morning hours. Their response:
I have added 437xxxxxxx to follow me manually for account [My freePL #]. Note: I am unable to add it as a contact number.

If there any reason you have 3 numbers in follow me?

Simul Ring [My freePL #]->[437 phone #] ->[2nd phone #]->[3rd phone #]

According to this FAQ below it will not work properly:

https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... neous-Ring
* Then in reply to my next email
Re->Thanks, is there a reason that it needs to be added manually?

Because your account got corrupted somehow due to incorrect follow me settings

Re->Why can't it be added as a contact number?

I will ask one of our Engineers to have a look. I could not add it with my permissions.
* Looking at the auto generated email I received before they replied it says
"2) Unable to register
Provide a non Fongo landline or mobile phone telephone number for account verification call back."
The 437 phone number is not from Fongo but it is from another voip service instead of the usual landline or mobile.

I have two phone numbers in FollowMe but may add a third number again in future. This FPL may be used for apartment entry phone in household of more than one person. Sequential ring would also be fine in that situation based on the different usage needs of the entry phone.

This isn't a registration issue since you already have an FPL number.

Thanks for letting me know what they told you.

Since your FPL number may be important to you, I suggest reading this (pay attention to #1): http://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en-u ... t-deleted-.

I used a landline number to register and it is now the contact number which I would like to change to a voip number. It may be that they are still checking that the contact number is a landline or mobile number, and is not accepting voip numbers even if they are not Fongo. I tested changing the contact number to a mobile number with a regular cell plan and it worked.

Yes I read that page before and make outgoing calls every month with my FPL.

The contact number can't be a VoIP number from Fibernetics. I don't know about other carriers. But what you wrote is certainly possible since the contact field is not accepting a VoIP number from Iristel for me.

You can check the number you are trying to enter here: https://www.twilio.com/lookup.
If the type says "voip", then you may be correct. FPL numbers from Fibernetics, Freephoneline and Fongo's parent company, may indicate "landline", but they're really VoIP and can't be entered in the contact field.

FWIW, I can enter VoIP numbers in Follow Me without any problems (including 437).

Thanks for the info. The type I get from the twillio page says "mobile" actually. Attached is a pdf of my emails with tech support (email addresses, phone numbers, ticket number blurred out). The last few emails has been the following. They claimed:
website is says clearly- Landline or cell.
I tell them:
No the website did not "clearly" say landline or cell when I tried to update the contact number in the Manage Your Account page. Also, my cell is using voip and I have a landline phone on another voip service. I have been registering these numbers as my cell number and landline number without any issues. As with the FollowMe ring options, there should be a note on the page where this info is updated. It should say fixed landline or cell phone from cell plan only. Instead the email I got from you said "non Fongo"
"2) Unable to register
Provide a non Fongo landline or mobile phone telephone number for account verification call back."
They reply:
re->No the website did not "clearly" say landline or cell when I tried to update the contact number in the Manage Your Account page. Also, my cell is using voip and I have a landline phone on another VoIP service.

I believe it does when you register.

Sorry it does not work as per your expectations.

Perhaps you can look for a different solution/provider that matches your requirements.
I reply:
No, when you register in Account Registration it says under the Contact Number "This number will be used to verify your account by SMS later in the registration process." Nowhere does it say that it has to be a non-voip landline or cell.

They seem to be defensive and not honest about what the web app says instead of trying to solve the problem e.g. confirm with the engineers if this is the case, acknowledge there is no note beside Contact Number field that is has to be a non-voip number and put a note that says that, etc.

Okay, I haven't tried to obtain a new phone number from Freephoneline in over a year (possibly years), but given that you have a phone number issued by Freephoneline already, does entering in a contact number even matter?
It seems to me you're able to use the service, right? Or does your account still require verification?

For what it's worth, I strongly suspect the reason Freephoneline has this policy is to prevent abuse of its services. Anyway, sorry, there's not much more I can do for you. I don't work for Freephoneline.
