No incoming calls - going to voicemail (Home Hub / OBi202)

Postby a2dahz » 08/30/2017

Hi,

About 3 months ago, after getting off a call with Bell, I stopped receiving incoming calls. All incoming calls go straight to voicemail. I'm still able to make outgoing calls.
I did change my internet plan on that day, not sure if it could have anything to do with it. I was worried that Bell might have ported out the number (they pitched a landline deal) but I checked with Freephoneline/Fongo and my number is still with FPL.

I have an OBi202. Using Bell Fibe. About a month ago I changed modems, I am now using Bell's Home Hub 2000. I don't remember/know what modem I was using prior to this one, it was an older modem provided by Bell. I think it might have been Sagemcom Fast 2864.

Not very good at this stuff. Any help/hint as to what the problem may be would be really appreciated.

1) Always check FPL's registration status in the ATA when you have problems. Registration is not required for outgoing calls, but it is required for incoming calls. Dial ***1, and enter the IP address you're told into your web browser.
Navigate to Status-->System Status-->SP(FPL) Service Status.

2) Click http://forums.redflagdeals.com/newegg-o ... #p27515990 (follow the steps, carefully, in the order listed, especially steps 1 to 15 at the bottom--and especially step 10). If you used the Obitalk web portal (http://www.obitalk.com) to configure your ATA, keep in mind that you must continue using it to configure your ATA. Otherwise whatever settings you change will eventually be overwritten by what you previously entered at obitalk.com anyway. If you wish to disable this behaviour, dial ***1. Enter that IP address into a web browser. Navigate to System Management-->OBiTalk Provisioning-->select Disabled for the method. Save. Reboot ATA. Now obitalk.com won't overwrite whatever changes you make via the device's interface (via IP address).

Pick one method (obitalk.com) or the other (IP address of device) for changing device settings. But do not use both methods.

(In Obitalk.com, you will need to enable and enter expert settings to change advanced settings, if you want to use Obitalk.com. You do this by selecting Edit Profile-->Advanced Options-->check Enable OBi Expert Entry from Dashboard-->submit)

Keep in mind too, that if you're using the Obitalk.com web portal, after you submit a new setting, it takes several minutes before Obitalk.com pushes the changes you've made to your ATA. Your ATA should reboot automatically after the changes are submitted.

3) Also double check all of your settings against the what's listed in the PDF guide: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18805&p=74836#p74836. You can also refer to pages 37 and 38.

When I dial ***1, I'm not sure if it's telling me my IP is 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.2.19 (I hear a 9 at the end before it mentions my DHCP)
When I enter 192.168.2.1 into my browser, it takes me to the Home Hub 2000. If I enter 192.168.2.19, I get a 404 page.
I logged into the OBi dashboard and seems like FPL status is "registered".

Going to try the rest of the steps now.

Quick update ...

I tried changing the FPL serve in OBi settings to voip2.freephoneline.ca, it didn't register so I set it back to voip.freephoneline.ca and now that doesn't register either. Can't make or receive calls now.

Then that's unlikely to be the correct LAN IP address of the ATA.

If I enter 192.168.2.19, I get a 404 page.

Refer to Step 2 on page 11 of the PDF guide: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18805&p=74836#p74972.
Or click https://www.obitalk.com/info/faq/OBi202 ... b-from-WAN
OBi202 users need to enable WAN access first.

I logged into the OBi dashboard and seems like FPL status is "registered".

Always check registration status in the ATA instead, and provide full error messages.

Also, visit http://forums.redflagdeals.com/newegg-o ... #p27069858 for the reason why I don't like using Obitalk.com.

I certainly don't recall telling you to change FPL proxyserver to anything other than voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060.
I'd be trying voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 instead with your one-way audio issue to try to circumvent potential SIP ALG problems. Remember that if you disable Obitalk Service and Obitalk Provisioning in the ATA, you can't use Obitalk.com to configure your ATA. Keep in mind too, that if you're using the Obitalk.com web portal, after you submit a new setting, it can take several minutes before Obitalk.com pushes the changes you've made to your ATA. Your ATA should reboot automatically after the changes are submitted.

It's time to download this PDF guide and check all of your settings carefully (including AuthUserName and AuthPassword): download/file.php?id=1975. Go through the entire guide, and especially look at pages 37 and 38. It's entirely possible that you may need to end up forwarding the RTP port range to the ATA, but as the guide mentions, that should be a last resort since forwarding ports is a security risk.

I enabled WAN access.

The registration status I am getting is: Register Failed: 403 Forbidden.

I set the FPL proxy server back to voip.freephoneline.ca. Please let me know if I should set it to voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 and if there any other fields I need to change (ports?) if I do.

Downloaded the PDF guide. Going to get on that now.

Thank you for your help.

With VoIP services, in general, that SIP error typically occurs when your Authpassword and/or Authusername have/has been entered incorrectly.
However, with FPL, I'm not entirely sure: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17288&p=68086&hilit=forbidden#p68086
and viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15120&p=68080&hilit=forbidden#p68080.

https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29874 ... uth-failed

What Mango writes is correct in that a 403 error should mean your SIP Password is wrong.
In fact, that "wrong password" error does appear over here in conjunction with the 403 error: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=10956&p=54852, but it's not clear what the cause is.

Double check your Authusername and AuthPassword.

Under SIP Credentials, your AuthUserName is your Freephoneline SIP Username, which is found
after logging into your account at https://www.freephoneline.ca/showSipSettings.

Your AuthPassword is your Freephoneline SIP Password, which is found found after logging into
your account at https://www.freephoneline.ca/showSipSettings.

And you need to double check your registration timers.
For RegistrationPeriod use 3600. RegistrationRetryInterval is 120.

The places where this information needs to be entered is outlined in the PDF guide.

You should really just use the guide.
If I were you I'd read it in it's entirety, including the preamble, but you should start on page 9, at the very least.

Please let me know if I should set it to voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060

If, after registration is successful, you experience one-way audio issues, then yes, you should try voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060, which is what every link I've told you to visit or read mentions trying. Given
the problems you're having, I would just try voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 anyway. Refer to the picture on page 17. The purpose of voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 is to try to circumvent faulty SIP ALG features in routers.

You should especially be referring to pages 37 and 38 in the PDF guide. You need to follow the steps, carefully, on those two pages in the order they're listed. Chances are you'll be unable to do step 15 on page 38, so you can skip step 15 on page 38.

I tried voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060, no luck. I went through all the settings to make sure everything is correct including the username and password but it still wasn't working.

Decided to reset to factory settings and setup brand new following the guide step by step from the beginning. Used voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060.

WORKING!

Thank you LiptonBrisk! This has been driving me nuts for months especially the last few days. I really appreciate it.

Thank you
