Grandstream HT-802 Compatibility

Postby sterod » 07/24/2018

Hello, does anyone know if the Grandstream HT-802 is compatible with FPL? My intention is to port 2 phone numbers from Bell to FPL and have both these numbers registered on the HT-802.

Thanks!

I strongly believe, but can't guarantee, that FPL will work on a Grandstream HT-802. Some settings should be similar to those found in this guide: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18839. If you want a more informed response, you'll have to wait for someone else to post. I have never used an HT-802.

If you're looking to buy an ATA, a vastly more powerful one is an Obihai OBi202 sold at newegg.ca. I suggest waiting for a sale. But don't use it as a router. The maximum routing throughput between the WAN to the LAN side is approximately 30 Mbps when there are no active calls. To learn everything you can do with an OBi202 (or OBi200) ATA using FPL that you won't be able to do with the Grandstream ATA, read this PDF guide: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18805#p73839.

Thanks for the reply. I emailed Fongo support and apparently they cannot ( or will not ) allow you to have (2) numbers on one account. So, it would appear that even if I did get this device, I would not be able to have (2) numbers on it, on one Fongo account.

Yes, however, there's nothing stopping you from buying two VoIP unlock keys using two different email addresses. The following may help: http://www.htstechtips.com/2010/09/24/m ... l-account/. You would then port twice. The fees would be (($89.95+tax) x 2) + (($25 +tax) x 2). You can provision both accounts on an Obihai ATA.

However, if you have a faulty SIP ALG feature in your router (or modem/router combo or gateway issued by your ISP) that you can't disable, you may be forced to register with voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 for both accounts, which wouldn't be the greatest idea given that you can run into a temporary IP ban for making too many registration attempts with the proxy server being used. Each time your reboot the ATA, you would be attempting to register twice with the same Proxy Server.

Visit https://www.voip-info.org/routers-sip-alg/, and scroll down to SIP ALG problems.

Concerning temporary IP bans, visit https://community.freepbx.org/t/trunk-s ... ca/22479/8
"As May 2013, our servers will rate limit REGISTER requests to a maximum of 10 requests per 5 minutes. Each authentication round usually consumes 2 requests (digest auth), so it is a fair number given our guidelines. Also, it does not affect INVITES (which are also authenticated)...

This rate limit is applied per IP address as our service is tailored to residential Canadian users (ADSL/Cable)."

The following three timers are important and should be set properly in your ATA as noted at https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en- ... redentials:

i) Registration Interval:3600 seconds (1 hour)

ii) Registration Expiry: 3600 seconds (1 hour)

iii) Failed Registration Re-Try Interval: 120 seconds

Ideally, you'd want to register the VoIP unlock keys using different proxy servers: voip.freephoneline.ca, voip2.freephoneline.ca, and voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060. You wouldn't want to use the same one for both accounts if possible. The purpose of voip4.freephoneline.ca:6060 is to circumvent faulty SIP ALG features in routers.

Interesting, good info, thanks!

I have a MikroTik router and it is possible to disable the SIP ALG on it.

It's possible SIP ALG is fine in your router anyway. Not all routers have faulty SIP ALGs.

I was hesitant in replying to this as I have never used a ht-802 so I couldn't confirm it 100%. Liptonbrisk handled it much better than I would have done :)
I did read through the specs and saw no reason why it wouldn't be supported, especially seeing the ht-704 is, but you never know.

I can confirm that you can have 2 different accounts, just not multiple numbers on one account. Maybe one day....
