A number I've called almost every day for years is now busy.

Postby Darkmatter » 05/06/2019

Hi, all of a sudden, my mothers number is always busy. I've already checked using my cell phone and it still works to call her but not Freephoneline using an Obi 202 on Windows 10 Pro.

No setting or anything has been changed, so I'm not sure why this is happening now. Also, I tried rebooting the Obi. Didn't help.

Thanks,

Hello,

Please go through the following steps in the order listed, step by step, and please provide information when asked.

1) What brand and model modem are you using?

2) What brand and model router are you using?
a) Is SIP ALG disabled in it?

3) If you're using an Obihai OBi200 or OBi202 ATA, setup your ATA properly by using the PDF guide fully: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18805#p73839.
The PDF file is found at the bottom of the first post.
Using the default Freephoneline profile at Obitalk.com can lead to problems as specified on pages 5 to 6 of the PDF guide. Go through the PDF guide fully once, and get your ATA configured properly. It's worth the time, in particular if your Digitmap for Freephoneline is incorrect.

4.
a)Dial ***1. Enter the IP address you hear into a web browser.
b)Log into the ATA (default username and password are "admin" without quotation marks).
c)Navigate to Status-->System Status-->SP(FPL) Service Status

What does the registration status indicate?

5. Login at https://www.freephoneline.ca/showSipSettings

a. SIP Status should state "connected"
b. If SIP User Agent is something you don't recognize, you've been hacked. And if it doesn't indicate that it's your Obihai ATA, there's a problem.

6. You can check your ATA's call logs by
a) Dialing ***1. Enter the IP address you hear into a web browser.
b) Log into the ATA (default username and password are "admin" without quotation marks).
c) Navigate to Status-->Call History
d) Check for calls to your mother's phone number.
e) Does the full phone show that it's been dialed?
f) Is there any error message (SIP error code)? If so, what is it?

Errors listed here may provide the most useful information for outbound call issues.

7. You can check Freephoneline's call logs by logging in at https://www.freephoneline.ca/callLogs. Select the current month from the drop-down menu. Click "Submit."
This typically provides less useful troubleshooting information than #6, especially if the call never actually connects to FPL's servers from your ATA.

8. Try dialing another phone number in your mother's area code. Try a bank or a shopper's drug mart if you can't think of any examples. Does the call complete normally?

9. Is it possible that your mother has accidentally call blocked your FPL number?

10. When this issue occurs, do you also experience issues receiving incoming calls to your FPL number? Test using your cellphone.

Thanks I'll do all that and get back to you.

That being said, I just want to throw this out there. I've been using this thing, successfully, for 2 years without issue, and I didn't change anything before this happened.

Just say'n.

Thanks.

A lot of people say that without realizing router NAT corruption can develop without a user doing anything (proper device reboot order is always modem-->router . . . wait for it to be fully up and running first-->ATA); devices can have firmware updated (especially modem/router combos or routers) without the user realizing it, which can re-enable SIP ALG in a router or modem/router combo or otherwise potentially introduce bugs; and that if you don't disable 4 settings, Obihai can do whatever it feels is correct (including upgrading firmware), without your express permission, to your ATA without your knowledge: https://forums.redflagdeals.com/newegg- ... #p28531310. Lastly, you don't need to do anything for your mother to accidentally block your FPL number.

If #8 works fine and if your mother claims she hasn't accidentally blocked your FPL number (and if there is no error reported in your ATA's call logs for calls to your mother), then the possibility exists that there's a carrier issue that needs to be reported to Freephoneline: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new (provide your mother's full phone number in the ticket). If no one responds to your support ticket, provide the ticket number in a private message to Fongo Support: ucp.php?i=pm&mode=compose&u=7852. You need to ensure the problem is not on your end first. I suggest going through the steps I listed.

Lastly, doing #3 should be mandatory to rule out issues introduced by a preset Obitalk.com profile.
