Cannot receive incoming calls

Post by superg »

Recently ported my number.
Configured SPA2102 as required. Registration State: Registered
I have also tested this adapter with my friends settings, able to send/receive calls.

I am able to make outgoing calls without any issue, and yes as callerid I see my number ported number.

Problem: Cannot receive calls...
When I try to call to this ported number from cell/landline i get message "Cannot be completed as dialed, please check the number and dial again" then it hangs up.

However Im able to receive calls from another FPL.

Can someone help please?

Hi superg,

Have yoou received an email confirming the completion of your number porting? although the number may not have been completed yet, if your device is configured with it, it is possible for other FPL users to reach your ATA device with the number programmed into it.

Thanks mike,
Yes I have received an email confirmation saying number have been ported successfully about two days ago.
Yes my friend has FPL number who is able to reach/connect. Another words Non FPL numbers cannot reach me.

I have also opened all the ports on ATA device. Actually I have enabled DMZ on the device.
I have also tried direct connection with MODEM.

This being the case, porting completed, then the number should be available for ANYONE to call -- it should then terminate somewhere.

FPL->FPL working makes sense (although in some cases, this has been known to fail on a botched port!), but without some other testing, I cannot offer a solution.

There are other current threads with port-related issues ("cannot receive calls from Petrolia" comes to mind) where extensive testing has been done by the person with the problem.

Of interest would be:
What kind of number did you port? Who was the original carrier? (IE a Bell Landline, or WIND Mobile but was originally a Rogers Wireless # that was ported to Wind).

What kind of numbers are the calls failing from?

IE: Telus landline from Edmonton gets a busy signal
Bell Mobility from Oshawa, ON works correctly
Cogeco Cable # ported from Bell in Kingston fails....

As much information as can be provided will help to troubleshoot this issue.

Hopefully it is not a botched port, or if it is, perhaps it can be repaired quickly enough!

Number imported starts with 416-454-xxxx
It was with chatr 4 months ago, then WIND and now ported to FPL/fongo.

What other testing would you like me to do?
I did following:
1. Adapter is working because same settings with another FPL userid/password is working.
2. Bypassed router, connected directly to Modem. No luck.
3. Hard reset & upgraded firmware on adapter.
4. Friend's FPL to My FPL is working.
5. All outgoing calls from my FPL are working.
6. Incoming calls not working. (except FPL)
7. Called my previous company (WIND) who had number, they do not have anything to with the number that is ported.
8. Called Fongo/FPL they confirmed number is ported.

I do not know what other tests to do, really frustrated.

Hang on, this seems to be a database sync issue. I had this problem with primus to primus move. when I moved to different area where the primus does not exist but still provided me the service, I think they are providing me VOIP service in some way.

I still dont get caller id from some service providers and my provider is primus.

When the number is ported, your old provider released the number, but xyz exchange database of the caller thinks you are still with the old provider and thus you can not receive the call.

if you can make calls and receive calls from fpl then there is nothing wrong with the ports. keep calling to your friends who exists on other providers till all the providers sync their dbs, eventually it will start working. I know it is pain. Your calling may eventually triger the syncing. they log all the cdrs and have their own wierd inter provider billing.

This is my assumption on how providers are working.

I am just a FPL user both with sip device and non sip number,

We have another thread going, where "Cannot receive calls from Petrolia (http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6626)" where we have narrowed down that the port from Cogeco->FPL seems to have resulted in calls from a certain Cogeco ratecentre are are still being routed to the "port-ers" old Cogeco voicemail, rather than to his FPL # --- the problem is that Cogeco has botched part of the port -- unfortunately, as he is no longer a Cogeco customer (since he ported), they are telling him to pound salt. His only recourse at this point is to get back in touch with the "porting dept" @ FPL and have them go back to his original carrier and ENSURE that they did the port correctly (which they have not, obviously!).

It makes it a bit of a run-around, but as the new service provider (FPL), they are the only ones that can go back to the FORMER provider about a port that is not working right, as you have no ties to them via that # anymore ...

You case being a double-port, this adds another layer of complexity where something could have been fouled up by any one of the previous carriers; that is what happens when they sometimes get sloppy or complacent in doing something as routine as a port ... usually someone was trying to shortcut something, or did not run a required test.

I would also think about filing a complaint with the CRTC if it does turn out to be a porting issue, as they have been popping up more and more frequently, and in 85%+ of the cases, it is the OLD carrier that buggers something up in the process, not the new carrier --- which leaves the enduser screwed, because you can not DIRECTLY go back to them and try to get them to do anything about it! :(
