Phone line down again?

Post by supermario_11 »

Hi,

My phone line just went down again for no apparent reason. No dial tone, can't receive incoming calls and cannot make outgoing calls. Calling the number goes straight to VM.

The same thing happened yesterday and there were a couple of threads on this. It resolved itself after half hour or so. Is anyone else having this problem and can FPL at least provide a notice when this is happening. Everything is fine, all is connected properly, internet normal and then suddenly line goes down. Very unreliable, Please fix!

Looks like this is the same issue being described in the thread I started http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7260 so check it out. increasing your register expires value in the ATA might help if you have it set to a lower value; it worked for me. Its not clear whether FPL made changes to throttle connections or increased the minimum wait time for SIP re-registration - if at all. It could be something else unrelated.

Its discouraging that if you call Fongo for support and you select that your a FPL subscriber in the voice prompts that you are redirected to the forums and your call is promptly disconnected for all technical issues even regardless of if the provider is at fault and not the home user.

It worked, thanks a lot man :D I had it at 180 and changed it to 3600, and now my dial tone is back :) I heard changing it to a lower number might help with the incoming issue I'm having, so I tried that out a long time ago and seemed to work just fine, but out of nowhere, yesterday the service just stopped working.

Are you serious? lol I guess they're not giving free support for a free service anymore. I purchased the unlock key and also buying long distance credits, so I wonder if paying customers get the same kind of support.

What I can tell you is that I purchased a VoIP unlock key, long distance credits, and a phone number port and ran into support issues. I would never come to expect free lifetime support for a service that is absolutely free off a one time purchase (even though I understand that FPL profits from ongoing call termination fees). However what I would expect is to be able to purchase support incidents in cases where its absolutely necessary. Althought I must also say that I'm finding that most FPL users, myself included are capable of diagnosing the problem themselves whereas Fongo paying customers may not be as technically inclined. What I don't like is when I have diagnosed the issue as being provider related and I have no vehicle to report an issue such that it is even noticed or dealt with in a timely fashion.

Maybe my experiences were not an accurate reflection of recent FPL support policies ??? I'd be more than eager to hear otherwise as I would only stand to benefit.
