Selectively forward telemarketers to voicemail (Linksys)

Postby RazzleDazzle » 04/12/2011

All of the following was figured out through trial-and-error, please feel free to add to this if you discover anything else.

Basics
Place telemarketer number in "Cfwd Sel1 Caller:" box.
*note: do not put any brackets or dashes, and match the numbers exactly. E.g. If the number is (416)555-5555, only 4165555555 will work. Not even 14165555555 will work.

What about the "Cfwd Sel1 Dest:" box?
You don't need to put in anything here because FPL at this time does not support this feature. No matter what you put in (or don't put in), the telemarketer will always be forwarded to your voicemail.

Wildcards
Sometimes you may want to block a wide range of similar numbers, and this can be achieved by using wildcards. The wildcard is represented by using a star (*).
Example 1: If you want to block all numbers starting with (416)555-xxxx, then you would put in 416555* in "Cfwd Sel1 Caller:"
Example 2: If you want to block all numbers ending with (xxx)xxx-5555, then you would put in *5555 in "Cfwd Sel1 Caller:"
Perhaps other combinations work, but I haven't tried them out.

What happens if I use up the alloted 8 slots that the interface provides?
Each slot can in fact hold a limitless amount of numbers. All you have to do is add a comma after each one.
For example, in the "Cfwd Sel1 Caller:" box alone, you can add: 4165551111, 4165552222, 4165553333, etc...
If that box gets too much for you to manage, you can move on to "Cfwd Sel2 Caller:" and continue on with your list.

Hope this helps!! :)

Freeswitch does this all for me... And yes, they're forwarded to an internal extension so I don't waste any of my 2 channels that FPL assigns to us ;)

Yes, you can block anonymous callers by logging in to your linksys configuration page --> voice --> user 1 --> supplmentary service settings --> Block ANC Setting --> change to "yes"

As stated above, for wildcards, you can use an asterisk (*), but you can also use a question mark (?) if you only want to make one digit a wild card. So for example if you want to block callers with numbers xxx-???-xxxx or xxx-x?x-xxxx, you can use the question mark wildcard.

This hasn't worked for me. I've placed "855*" to block "855xxxxxxx" numbers in Cfwd Sel1 Caller and it hasn't worked. Call still goes through.

EDIT:

SOLUTION: OK, I found the culprit, I am using PAP2T-NA (Firmware Version: 5.1.6(LS)), what worked for me was I had to insert all of the wildcards, numbers, and commas WITHOUT SPACES separating each entry. That worked for me. For ex., "650461*,415528963*,855*" (without quotations), etc.
