I have that now on my daughters iPod. It was fine on IOS5 and I managed to buy a months worth of texting for her, but when I go there now it crashes as you say, so it is an IOS6 related problem.

Hi all,

Just want to mention that my app is also crashing after updating to iOS6. Would love to try the new messaging option, but I can't for now. :-(

Cheers,

You have to wait for new update from DV cause iOS

if your iDevice jailbroken before you can go back 5.1.1 works fine

FONGO_Mike, if I we log into a DellVoice account on Android phone, instead of an iDevice running iOS6, could we then buy a text package; log out; then log back into that account on the iDevice. Will the text package transfer over to the iDevice because it is tied to the account, or will it stay with the Android phone because that is where it was bought from?

I'm just think about in a months time when my daughter's package runs out, it looks like I will have to renew it.

**edit
Just as I clicked submit, I realised I could answer my own question. I just used my Android phone to log into her account, and I do see the text credit there - so it does move with the account and not just on the phone/device.

So as a workaround, which probably isn't practical for everyone, log out of your iOS6 iDevice and log in with an Android phone. Buy the credits and then log back out again. Next log in with your iDevice as normal and your text package should be there.
If you don't have an Android phone and can't arrange to borrow one, you will just have to wait until this crash thing gets fixed. It would be helpful if they could either put the text packages online for us to buy, or if we can call in to buy them. Maybe we can and Mike will tell us so.

Hiya FONGO_Mike and Jake! Thanks for this discussion. Thanks for the info Mike, about logging-out not actually closing the app on a smartphone - so it's best that I exit anyhow. ;) Jake at first read of your comment on other texting apps not enabling you to switch accounts I thought 'yeah good point' but Text+ does enable login/out for multiple accounts on the same app and no SMS history is lost (the system is set up to show you missed calls even when you're logged out - but no voicemail feature, so DV still kicks a$$ - haha)...BUT Mike also pointed out the obvious 'Most phones are used by one user only' so it's very unlikely that I'll ever come across a valid reason to need to log out anyhow - unless I switch/upgrade phones in the future.. and in that case I now know that I'll need to write down any important info that has come to me via sms before I lose the sms history when I log out of my DV account on the soon-to-be-old-phone. Are you able to be logged into one DV account on multiple phones? Will the same sms history show on all phones on the same account? That would be handy in the event of switching phones - to keep all sms history in the switch. Here is a different facet of the multiple devices logged into the same DV account question... I wonder if the phone gets stolen, would you be able to sign into the app on a new phone if the thief doesn't log out of the app on the stolen phone? I would guess 'no' - but I wonder if there would be any way to keep your DV account in this event? I often travel to Central America - which is a hot spot for small-time theft of gadgets. Thanks so much for thoughts and replies - yes I am a person who likes to test/understand/utilize the full potential of apps & gadgets. :) Why not?! Appreciate this forum mucho!

What's the deal with messaging anyway? I was disappointing to see it cost money. Plenty of services (such as Text+) That offer US/Canada texting for free along with other goodies. Kind of a bummer, but I'd rather use something free than pay money for an identical service.

Hi Irix,

Dell Voice is aiming to be a complete mobile solution for Canadians, which is slightly different than apps offering only free ad-support texting but still require you to pay extra for phone service, or have a dedicated phone plan from your carrier.

With Dell Voice we're giving you the voice services for free with a free phone number, calling to all major metropolitan areas in Canada along with fully loaded phone features (something that's traditionally very expensive from mobile phone companies).

In turn, we have various addons like texting and long distance calling vouchers that can be purchased at extremely low prices compared to most of the competition. Compare unlimited Canada-wide texting to $10-15 from most pay-as-you-go phone carriers. Also, many free texting apps will include ads in the messages that are sent - we do not do this. (Keep in mind, we still offer FREE Dell voice to Dell voice texting though)

So in short, even though you have very low rates for the texting, we're still saving incredible amounts of money on the other part of mobile service - the phone calling, long distance and calling features. It comes down to the business model, and although the competition may have some free ad-support texting apps, they aren't able to save you all the money on your phone service like we do. So it balances out, and you'd probably even save more money by going with Dell Voice!

I asked this question before but have not received a reply. Which phones are compatible with DV. My unlocked LG Optimus L3 can not download the app because "it is not compatible". Is there a list somewhere? Thanks.

Yes you do. If you do not have a text package you will only be able to get messages from other DV users which are free.

My daughter has the Canadian text package and she can get texts I send through Google Voice (which I assume is coming from the US) so I would say yes.

Mike that post was from over a month ago, I would have thought they have either given up or, as I suspect, it got fixed when the rest of us were having that problem.

It is funny how one never appreciates what is free! I personally held my nose on Fongo's texting because it does not do proper multimedia messaging with other carrier's phones. But if everyone you know uses the Fongo app, the free texting with other Fongo users is a pretty neat feature!
