The evolution of Dell Voice: Picture and group messaging

Have a great idea? We'd love to hear it! Want to share the story of how Fongo is saving you money? This is the place to do it!

The evolution of Dell Voice: Picture and group messaging

Postby FONGO_Announcements » 11/23/2012

Hi everyone,

Today, we launch a completely redesigned app with an updated interface and more free features.

“Fongo has revolutionized the mobile service industry with a business model no one thought was possible: free calling. But our desire to innovate the mobile experience goes much further than cost savings. A phone that presents nothing more than a dialpad is an outdated idea. Our new design is beautiful, modern, and a much needed breath of fresh air in a stale industry.” -- Dave Bullock, president of Fongo.

New Big Features:

Share your snapshots. Picture messaging is here.
Now, post that concert photo to your Fongo contacts. We've added free, unlimited picture messaging between Fongo users.

Start a bigger conversation.
Introducing free group messaging with Fongo. Chat with multiple Fongo contacts and call or message them from the group thread.

For those of you who currently use Dell Voice, be sure to update to the latest version, and enjoy!

And for those of you who are not yet Fongo customers, the app is available for easy download on the Fongo website, the App Store, and Google Play.

Talk Freely,

Team Fongo

Here's a little more information about our latest release (in addition to new picture and group messaging!):

Some of the New Additional Features:

- A tiled interface with tiles that can be moved to new positions.
- Info tiles that notify you about missed calls, new messages, voicemails; tips on best practices; and account information.
- A FAVS tile for easy access to your favourite contacts. Add contacts to your FAVS from multiple locations in the app.
- Call rates are automatically displayed once a phone number is entered into the dial pad or a contact's profile.
- Redial the last number you called by double clicking the "Call" button on the dialpad.
- Swipe left or right on list items in the History, Messaging and Visual Voicemail screens to reveal actions.

Bug Fixes:

- Android: Message screens do not change to landscape if rotation is locked
- Android: Message field wraps
- iOS: Allows calls after a native phone app call
- iOS: No longer crashes on viewing Preferences
- iOS: Message field wraps

Supported iOS versions are now iPhone (iOS 4.3+, iPhone 3GS+) or iPod touch (Generation 3 or 4, iOS 4.3+)

Hi Jake,

I agree, i love the new UI with this update. Gotta be honest, it has been hard not being able to say anything about it while it was being developed. It is a gorgeous, slick design and feel. When i think of Fongo and Dell Voice, THIS is what i picture!!

Sorry Jake, just excited about this change. Everyone at Fongo that has worked on this update has been looking forward to launching it. Playing with is for a few minutes at first is enjoyable, but using it over a slightly longer period of time, THAT is where you will notice the changes the most.

It probably should be mentioned that this update is only for the mobile phone app, not the desktop app. There has been confusion over this in the past.

Mike/Steve, is the update for Android, iOS, and BB? So far I only have the update on Android.

On my Android phone and in the Play Store, this app is called either Fongo and Dell Voice in various places.

The screen shots also show Fongo (https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... oice&hl=en)

Now I know Fongo != Dell Voice, so is this app Fongo or Dell Voice now? It even has the Fongo butterfly icon rather than the Dell white and blue square I am used to.

I find it overdone and tacky. I would suggest to the team to look at viber and whatsApp. Remember ease of use and simplicity
is always paramount.
