obi200/202 setup montreal

Postby phantomvs » 11/20/2018

hi !

i would like to configure a obi 200/202 for montreal.
We have 311,411,511,811, and of course 911
Now i know we are limited with FPL.

For the digitmaps , would this work on a obi 200/202
(911S0|<311:5148720311>S0|<411:18005551212>S0|<511:18883550511>S0|<811:18003613977>S0|x11S0|*xxS0|[2-9]xxxxxxxxxS0|1xxxxxxxxxxS0|011xxxxxxxxxxxx.|1900x.!|1976x.!)

I saw this in another post
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8716
Thanks !

You are not limited at all: https://www.fongo.com/government-service-numbers/. That is not the correct digitmap. The one in the OBi2xx PDF guide is.
However, dialing 411 with Freephoneline costs money. 411 calls will not complete unless you have world credits on your account.

Should you have special digitmap requests, please ask for help on Obihai's forums at http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?board=3.0.

I know we have to pay for 411 and 911 calls on FPL.

I read the obi2xx pdf guide but the digitmap , but i don't seem to get how to add the service numbers.

Is it easier just to program the obi using obitalk ?

You don't need to manually add service numbers. They are handled by the Freephoneline, natively: https://www.fongo.com/government-service-numbers/.

However, there is an example provided in the PDF guide on page 18.
<811:8667970000> is for Toronto

What this means is that when you dial 811, the ATA will dial 8667970000 instead. 811 is replaced with what follow after the colon.

Typically when you dial a N11 government with a regular Bell landline, for example, the call is just immediately routed to the destination as expected.
But whether dialing a N11 number works is dependent on the service provider. If the service provider doesn't know how to handle/route a specific N11 number,
then you need to find the real full phone number and dial it yourself.

With Freephoneline, 811 doesn't work yet in Toronto, but it does for Quebec. You are in Montreal, so you don't need to use <811:8667970000>.
You can just dial 811 normally, and it will work.
For the sake of discussion though, let's say you did need to dial a full phone number instead of 811. You would then want to use <811:telehealthnumberforQuebec> instead in your FPL digitmap.
You would need to find the actual Telehealth Phone number for Quebec and replace telehealthnumberforQuebec with the real
phone number. Then, when you dial 811, the real phone number for Telehealth Quebec would be dialed by the ATA.
You only need to specify real phone numbers in instances where the service provider, Freephoneline, doesn't offer automatic routing for N11 calls.
That is, these N11 numbers are handled by Freephoneline, and you don't have to do anything for them: https://www.fongo.com/government-service-numbers/.
In cases where N11 numbers are handled by Freephoneline, including 411 and 911, you don't need to do anything: https://www.fongo.com/government-service-numbers/.
.[2-9]11 in the digitmap covers the N11 numbers listed at https://www.fongo.com/government-service-numbers/.

Not for digitmaps, it won't.
Instead, you'll be creating additional potential problems by using the pre-configured Freephoneline profile at Obitalk.com.
Those issues are clearly outlined on pages 5 and 6 of the PDF guide.

Wow, ok now i get it !! :D
I was under the impression we had to add the N11 numbers.
Thanks again for clearing that up for me Liptonbrisk !! :D

So in that case i will use the IP and web browser for configuring since its better.

Now lets say in my case i have my own answering machine and don't want to use the FPL voicemail.
Can i turn it off ?
Or do i just put max # of rings on voicemail so my machine pickups instead as i read somewhere on the Fongo site.?

Also when making local calls do i have to dial 1 or just area code and number as i do now ?

Thanks again !

I don't advise this for several reasons.

Can i turn it off ?

No. That's the first reason. In the event your ATA becomes unregistered with Freephoneline for any reason (internet goes out, router NAT firewall issue, etc.), incoming calls will be dropped to Freephoneline's voicemail system. There's no way that you will never receive a voicemail on FPL's voicemail system. It may not happen for a long time, but it will eventually happen.

The second reason is that you can set Freephoneline's voicemail to be forwarded as an audio file attachment to your email address, which I find convenient.

The third reason is that Freephoneline's voicemail system is amazing as an incoming call fax machine. When FPL's voicemail system answers the incoming fax call, it is automatically converted to PDF file format. If you have voicemail to email enabled, the PDF file is automatically forwarded to your email address. By the way, the free smartphone app, Fongo Mobile is even better for handling incoming fax calls because you can view the PDF file directly within the app without having to check email first.

The fourth reason is that checking Freephoneline's voicemail is a local call from many places in Canada: https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en- ... l-remotely.

One disadvantage is that it takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes before a voicemail notification to arrive to your ATA once a message is left and for 10-15 minutes for the notification to disappear after all voicemail has been deleted. That's done by FPL to help conserve server bandwidth.

Or do i just put max # of rings on voicemail so my machine pickups instead as i read somewhere on the Fongo site.?

Yes, you would do that after logging in at https://www.freephoneline.ca/voicemailSettings.

Also when making local calls do i have to dial 1 or just area code and number as i do now

There's no need to dial 1 for any destination in Canada using FPL, including 800 and 876 numbers.

Ok so let me get that straight as my wife wants to know, she loves her own answering machine.
So if i put the voicemail on FPL at 12 rings (max from what i read) and my own answering machine at 3 to 4 rings , i am ok .
My personal answering machine would pickup before and there should be no conflict with the obi or FPL ?

Yes, but again, you’re going to have to to use FPL’s voicemail system at some point, which is, by the way, superior, for the reasons I mentioned, to most basic Panasonic answering machines (just using that as an example). There’s no getting around that sooner or later someone is going to leave a message on FPL’s voicemail system no matter what you do. I have physical answering machines. I don’t bother using them.

Thanks for the reply.
Good to know i could use both , will just have to get use to FPL system eventually.
I do agree it has way more features than Panasonics.
