Follow-Me settings revert to Disabled by themselves?

Postby benze » 03/02/2019

I've been using FreePhoneLine for some time, but recently have noticed that the Follow-Me setting keeps reverting to the Disabled state on its own after a given period of days (I have been unable to determine how many days). I do not understand how or why this is happening. This has happened several times already, so I know it isn't a one-time thing.

Are there specific conditions which will reset the Follow-Me settings? What could cause this to keep reoccurring? More importantly, how can I ensure it doesn't continue? Would buying an ATA unlock key, or credit on the account prevent this from reoccuring?

I tried email support, but they don't provide support for FreePhoneLine.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi,

FPL doesn’t provide technical support for problems that are on your end, but if it’s an account issue, they do. You would select “My Account” for the issue type.

I’m not aware of any differences between free and paid FPL accounts with respect to Follow Me (if there are differences, that’s news to me), but the first thought that went through my head is that your account password has been hacked and someone else is changing your Follow Me settings. Try changing your password after logging in at https://www.freephoneline.ca/updatePasswordDetails.
Please do not send me emails; I do not work for nor represent Freephoneline or Fongo. Post questions on the forums so that others may learn from responses or assist you. Thank you. If you have an issue with your account or have a billing issue, submit a ticket here: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. Visit http://status.fongo.com/ to check FPL/Fongo service status. Freephoneline setup guides can be found at viewforum.php?f=15.

Have you tried changing your account password at https://www.freephoneline.ca/updatePasswordDetails to ensure no one else has access to your account?

It might be worth submitting a ticket and asking whether Follow Me settings for free accounts are reset periodically: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.
Choose "My account inquiry" for the final issue type.
I would be interested in the answer, actually. I've never heard of that happening before.

it has happened before and IIRC, it is within the first week of the month when it does happen.
maybe a system upgrade caused the problem.

I tried submitting a ticket and they told me they don't provide support for FPL accounts, and to use the community board. I was hoping that someone had more details explaining what/why this was happening.

I sincerely have no clue since I've never encountered this issue.

Other than someone gaining access to your account and changing the setting, what Savario suggested about server maintenance/upgrade might be possible, but if so, wouldn't everyone's Follow Me setting be reset? Unfortunately, I'm unable to offer further assistance, sorry.

I just came across this.

https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/arti ... Follow-Me-
“Follow Me settings will be automatically reset (turned off) for accounts which have not been used to place an outgoing call for 90 days.”

That must also apply to Freephoneline.

Thanks, I usually don't make outgoing calls.

The situation is much worse this time, as on Feb 6/2020 my account was disabled completely and I can't log back on.

Visit https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en- ... t-deleted-
“FreePhoneLine Accounts which have not been used to place an outgoing call for over 90 days are considered inactive and are subject to deletion”

You would need to submit a ticket if you want to attempt to have your account restored: https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Even if you have placed an outgoing call within the past 90 days, you’ll still need to submit a ticket if you want to try to get your account back.

this continues to happen at least 3-4 times a year. It's annoying and I notice now it requires you to re-enter all the follow me phone numbers (previously you could just flip the disabled to enabled and the previous numbers were there) but now..you need to enable it and re-enter all the numbers and number of rings.

I never use Follow Me for very long except to test, but I just re-enabled it to check. My numbers are still in there, but I've never had my Follow Me settings automatically turned off either. I always disable it manually.
Based on the description of settings automatically being reset, I guess everything is wiped.

well that explains it! Thank you. People who make outgoing calls at least once every 30 days won't see this issue (it previously was probably set to 90 days) and it would happen maybe once or twice a year for me. Do you know if freephoneline numbers can be ported out to another provider?

Yes, visit https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en- ... er-carrier.

When porting out has been completed, your FPL account will be terminated, and if you own a VoIP unlock key on that account, you will lose it automatically.
Similarly, any remaining World Credits will be lost.

Does anyone know if this restriction still applies if you have a VoIP unlock key? Or alternatively, is there anyway with a VoIP unlock key to create a scheduled task to generate an outgoing call (ex: linux cron job) on a regular schedule?

Thanks,

Yes, it does. This support page is listed under the heading, " Freephoneline Unlocked (VOIP KEY)": https://support.freephoneline.ca/hc/en- ... Follow-Me-.

VoIP unlock key accounts aren't subject to deletion due to inactivity, but "Call Forwarding settings will be automatically reset (turned off) for accounts which have not been used to place an outgoing call for 30 days. FreePhoneLine accounts are not intended to be used primarily as a call forwarding service."
