I'm a new customer with Fongo Home. I received the Grandstream HT801 ATA Device the other day and proceeded with setting it up. For the time being I'm using a phone number from Fongo during signup . The setup is as follows. My bell router is set in bridge mode which is in front of my pfSense firewall which is set for PPPOE configuration. Created a VLAN interface in pfSense on one of the NICs and attached the ATA device to a switch and created an outgoing NAT rule.. I'm able to login to the web gui on the device.
The ATA device currently has only two LED's lit, power and internet. When calling to my mobile phone using the home phone, I immediately get a busy tone. When calling to the Fongo phone number using my mobile phone it goes immediately to voice box. I checked to see if the calls were logged in my fongo account which they were.
The instruction steps for setup seems to demonstrate a plug and play installation with a modem however my setup is different using pfSense.
Do i need to setup port forward rules on the WAN interface for SIP and RTP? How about the ATA device, does it need any configuration made?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Cannot make incoming and out going calls
Re: Cannot make incoming and out going calls
Someone more technical than me might be able to help you better, but I would say for sure you will need to make UDP ports for the RTP to go through.
I did a quick search for "pfSense and Freephoneline" (Fongo's sister company) and one discussion pointed to this post.

Although it's not the same issue as yours it does mention forwarding UDP ports for RTP.

This might help also, but I don't know

I would avoid VLAN unless you have no other choice.kiekar wrote:ICreated a VLAN interface in pfSense on one of the NICs
Yes.The instruction steps for setup seems to demonstrate a plug and play installation
But you won't be able to configure it since the ATA is locked to Fongo's provisioning server.I'm able to login to the web gui on the device.
I would submit a ticket at https://support.fongo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and
1) ask to confirm that your ATA is registered (or you might be able to find that information after logging in at https://account.fongo.com/login/),
2) ask them to put you on the server intended for SIP ALG (one-way audio) issues (this shouldn't matter if your Bell Hub is running in bridge mode, but I would do it anyway),
3) ask them to configure your ATA not to use a random RTP port,
4) ask for the RTP port (possibly the range) they've specificed in your ATA, and
5) ask for a list of all required UDP ports.
Then I would try port forwarding the related RTP (UDP) port range to your ATA. Do not port forward UDP 5060. Port Fowarding is a security risk, and forwarding UDP 5060 will make you suspectible to SIP scanners.
I would avoid anything involving SIProxd in pfSense.

Re: Cannot make incoming and out going calls
Got it working. Had to open port 6060 to register the ATA device. Also removed the VLAN network as the device is locked down.

Thanks for the update.kiekar wrote:Got it working. Had to open port 6060 to register the ATA device. Also removed the VLAN network as the device is locked down.
UDP 6060 is for SIP signalling or SIP registration for the Fongo server that's intended to avoid SIP ALG issues. If you needed to forward that port, your ATA wasn't registering or was having problems communicating with Fongo's proxy server.
RTP ports are for the audio stream portion of the call.
