Caller not hearing call on their end

A friend of mine with a Fongo app installed tried calling me on my Fongo number yesterday .

I could hear him very clearly but he was not able to hear me .

We are both using Pixel 3a's .

I tried calling him back with the same results

I called him again using a landline (non-Fongo) and had the same results

SMS texts work fine

We later connected using Whatsapp video calling and that worked fine.

Any suggestions on what is happening?

Whatsapp doesn’t use SIP protocol.
Fongo Mobile does.

Were you both using connecting using cellular data? Or was someone using Wi-Fi?

What happens if both of you enable “Alternate Fongo Connection” (under settings) in the Fongo Mobile app?
If that works you, your friend, or both of you are dealing with a SIP ALG issue.
