Re: Call Dropping while on Wifi--HELP!

I know people went as far as put the Hitron in bridge mode, and got a proper router to deal with the wifi. You might need the help of Rogers to put the Hitron in bridge mode though. I heard you could update the firmware of the Hitron, but I forget if that worked when it came to Voip issues. For the ...

Re: Fongo Mobile / Texting / Ad Removal

QUESTION 1 : Is Fongo mobile app the good choice for replacing my home phone Bell landline ? I'm thinking about porting my Bell landline home phone number to Fongo and using it with the Fongo mobile app. I would then be able to : -receive and make free phone calls to major cities in Canada while in...

If you have decent wifi internet in Nicaragua, the Fongo app should be able to make and take calls, results may vary though. I would remove the call forwarding when in Nicaragua

Re: Fongo icon no red/green icon, only white

I just checked my Moto E 2020. You are right, it stays white. Checked my LG G7, and LG Velvet and it is coloured. If I were to guess, the latest stock Android skins do not do colours, of which the Pixel and Moto phone use. The Tab uses Samsung's skin. And the LG phones have their own skin. If you wa...

Re: FREEPHONELINE - Can I use ONLY for voicemail, without ph

I am probably spewing the obvious, but you can do the same thing with the Fongo app. For most people, the Fongo app is more convenient, and it is better supported than FPL. The Fongo app even has a web based front end. The only real advantage of FPL is when you want to use the SIP settings to hook u...

Re: Fongo Home Phone in an Apartment/condo complex—feasible?

It does seems the Fongo Home phone will suit your needs. You might be better off getting a local geek to set it up for you though. It is not hard to set up, but I feel with the questions you are putting out, there needs to be a little more familiarity with this technology than you currently have. Ce...

Re: Using a Fongo # solely to receive voicemail-to-email etc

If you have decent internet in your area of Central America, you could hook up an old school telephone system to the Fongo adapter, and be able to make and receive phone calls in Central America with that phone system. It is not needed but nice to have. Probably not that practical for your purposes....

Re: Using a Fongo # solely to receive voicemail-to-email etc

You can certainly port a number to the Fongo app without the need of an adapter. A one time porting fee of $25 is required though, if you want to port over the number to Fongo. Once you pay the $25 to port the number over, you can leave your number inactive indefinitely. Inactive numbers being delet...

A provider has to have a presence in the area to be able to port in and out a number in the area. So no go.

Re: Why no Kelowna BC numbers? Anyone dare respond?

A few things. Fibernetics owns Fongo, and Fongo will not pay a company like Iristel for numbers. Fongo will not provide numbers in that area until Fibernetics decides it is able to get that exchange. I am sure Fibernetics has their reasons not serving Kelowna right now, very likely beyond their cont...

Re: Android App is not working properly

I was playing with a pseudo VPN called Cloudfare 1.1.1.1 Warp. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cloudflare.onedotonedotonedotone&hl=en_CA&gl=US It's advantages are that it is free, the company running it is reputable, and it does not kill the battery. It is not a full blown ...

Re: Why no Kelowna BC numbers? Anyone dare respond?

If I were to guess, I think it comes down to BC not having that many area codes for the population, and because of that, Fongo is not able to get the exchanges they want. In Nova Scotia, exchanges get given away like candy, because you have a new empty area code just looking for telco providers, ser...

It is possible, but not recommended, in case something does go wrong.

The existing carrier insisting upon a SMS is a good example.

I would talk to your existing carrier on options.

It would interesting to see if the Fongo Desktop App for Windows 10 is actually an Android app for Windows 11, assuming Windows 11 is supposed to be able to run Android coded apps.

Re: How secure are dialpad entries?

Unless there is a court order requiring them to do so, Fongo is not recording your dial pad entries. Fongo provides a minimal amount of security. If someone wanted to access your phone calls, it would not be difficult. This is by design. VOIP over POTS will never be secure, because the POTS end is n...

Re: Shall I buy out the username and passowrd?

I am assuming you want to buy some SIP settings so you can use another ATA beside the one Fongo provides, and save money on the long run? First of all, I would set up a new Freephoneline account, get a new number, and then port your Fongo number to that account. It usually cost $25, but it can be fr...

Re: Fongo vs. 'Mobility for Good'?

I have not had experience with Mobility for Good, so I do not know if Telus offers better service for them. I have had experience with Telus, and certainly with Koodo and Public Mobile, both of which are owned by Telus. Telus and Koodo were pretty bad, there were many customer service reps that real...

Re: Why different rates for non-domestic calls?

The cost depends on the peering agreement the telco has with the telco on the other end. There is also a profit margin to maintain. Telcos are here to get paid. But yeah, the actual cost is much lower.

Re: Fongo vs. 'Mobility for Good'?

This is an apples vs oranges discussion. Fongo is free, limited customer service. Telus offers cell coverage. I have not been impressed with the customer service. I have had to do a CCTS call to get them to respond to something rather simple, because there was no one to answer the phone. Get Fongo f...

Re: 911 service fee

I do not think there is a mechanism to actually collect the 911 fee. Saying that, don't call 911 to test the service out. This costs Fongo money, and if it gets abused too much, we are in for fees in what is now a free or low cost service. If you do feel you might need 911, just get an un activated ...
