Re: Newby question
You will need to find your own internet or data connection in the US, but once you do, you can make phone calls to Canada for free using Fongo.

Re: Desktop sms interface
Great idea, but probably not going to happen anytime soon. Best alternative I can give you is to run an Android Emulator on your PC and then install the Fongo app on the emulator. I personally use MEmu, but there are plenty others.

Re: General Questions
Kind of new to this, got some general questions to confirm some things 1. What is the process of porting my existing cell number? Is there a cost associated with it, and how long does it generally take? It costs $25, and the port should take a couple of days, but it can take a couple of weeks. 2. I...

Re: Traveling abroad. Is Fongo appropriate in my situation?
Just to make sure I'm understanding this right: If I port my number ASAP (I leave next week-end), then once it's on Fongo that will end my plan with Koodo, right? That means I wouldn't be able to receive calls (while still in Canada) unless I have wifi access, since I no longer have a GSM data plan...

Re: Traveling abroad. Is Fongo appropriate in my situation?
I have an unlocked Android smartphone, and in 1 week am leaving the country for Vietnam for several months. I plan on switching my Koodo SIM card with a local one when I'm in Vietnam, to make local calls and have cheap Internet. However while I'm there I'd still like my phone receive standard calls...

Re: Fongo App: Support True MMS
From my understanding, Fongo can do MMS, it is just that it does not have the peering agreements with telcos to support MMS. I would guess it would cost too much. A competing app has an arrangement with a US telco which allows them to do MMS with other carriers. I think Fibernetics would have to be ...

You just need a telephone splitter like this one, https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/RJ11-6P4C- ... W5S4FYY843
You can also get them at the dollar store.

Re: Desktop App issues
I do not think there was much for resources put in the desktop app for quite some time. that is works at all is a minor miracle! You will like the SIP settings. As you already know, they cost a pretty penny, but they are worth every cent! Same goes for the Obihai device! The Obihai call attendant is...

Re: Force unknown callers to enter a pin to ring the phone?
Fongo Works might offer a solution in an indirect way. As most voice mail spam is automated, even something as simple as a call attendant would mess up most spam. You would have another phone number from Fongo Works, but I do not think that is a big deal as far as you are concerned. It works like th...

Re: Voice Dropouts and Echo
Thanks very much for the reply bridonca. I guess that makes sense, but billions of people are using cell phones with their cell phone plans without the need for headset and mics. While that may resolve the issue, there is no way I am going to carry around a headset and mic with me for occasional ce...

Re: Voice Dropouts and Echo
It makes sense it is a problem on the other end of the conversation, their conversation is feeding back through your mic and speakers Try using wired headset/headphones with a microphone. Slabs make for awful phones, and for them to work, they need to enable echo cancellation algorithms to make the ...

As far as I can remember, the Fongo Home Phone adapter is unlocked, so it can be used with any SIP VOIP carrier. If you own it, you can sell it.

Re: Grandstream GXP2130 Enterprise IP Telephone
I do not know if there is a Grandstream GXP2130 Enterprise IP Telephone on the list, but even if there is not, you take a look at the SIP setting on any Grandstream device that is on the list, you should be able to make use of those settings on your Grandstream GXP2130 Enterprise IP Telephone.

Re: Spam Catcher Suggestion
Spam is increasing and to stop it i have a suggestion to create a central spam catching number. the users of free phone line and fongo forward the calls to the spam catching number. this way there will be a common spam arrest number , once the number is stored in the spam db, next time it is automa...

Re: BlackBerry 10 support plans?
If I were to guess, I would say Fongo has no plans for BB10 support, and has not had it for a while. The BB app is essentially an Android app that is compatible enough to work with Blackberry's Android emulation layer. I doubt there is a Fongo tech that tests out the latest Fongo Android app to work...

Re: Does fongo change the phone number without warning?
A dormant number makes Fongo no money. A Fongo number that receives incoming calls, makes Fongo fractions of a penny, but they make money. It adds up. You buy credit, or port a number over, or buy a texting package, Fongo is well compensated, and those services paid for that number. The chances of m...

Set up a new Fongo account on your Samsung with another email address, then PM support, and see if you can swap numbers.

Re: Short Message Codes
If I were to guess, I would say never. There is no money in it for Fongo.
I might add, if a service is using short codes as authentication, it is a deliberate act to dissuade use of VOIP services because those services, have in the past, have been subject to abuse.

Re: Provide iNUM free calls
I do not believe it is going to happen. No money in it. Fongo already provides real phone numbers for free, so iNUM numbers are redundant, and much less useful. There are already countless other providers like IPPI that do it, so just go that way instead. I have to say the same with outgoing calls, ...
