Ok I've been noticing a problem with PBXes. Once I save settings, and make a call from another phone to the number I have registered with PBXes, the phone will ring on the other end and I ca pick it up. But the next call I make to this number does not go through. It consistently happens. First call goes through, the rest do not. I have to go into the Trunk settings, click the submit button and then it will work again.

Anyone have any trouble with PBXes like this?

Nope. I've been using them for years. They are not very reliable but no problem like that.
It looks like your trunk is losing registration.

I use '360' for Pbxes in the ATA.

I just had a "EUREKA!" moment.

My ATA (Linksys SPA2102) has 2 line out's. I had already configured Line 1 with my freephoneline credentials directly (because that's what I've been using until I found out about PBXes). Then used Line 2 to test PBXes -- but I didn't disable Line 1. So when I submitted my changes in the PBXes control panel, it registered the number with FreePhoneLine, but after the first call came in, I guess Line 1 re-registered itself because "Regiser Expires" is set to 180. So calls were still actually going through, but they were going to Line 1 and I didn't hear it because I had the phone connected to line 2.

That's why it worked every time after re-submitting the settings in PBXes.com

It all makes sense now!

Everything seems to be working perfectly now that I disabled Line 1 n my ATA!

I know it's a little off-topic, but do u know how to set up "on hold music" in PBXes? I tried uploading a mp3 file, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Do i have to set any other settings or is just uploading a mp3/wav file sufficient enough to activate the setting? Are there filesize limits?

From their wiki:

Should music on hold be uploaded at any specific sampling rate?

Music on hold may be uploaded as MP3 or WAV files. If MP3 does not work try WAV, which need to have 8000 Samples per second, Mono, PCM, 16-Bit format. MP3s may be at any sampling rate. Sometimes it became neccessary to reset the PBX (by clicking "Submit & Start" in "Personal Data") to get music on hold running initially.
We recommend Goldwave to edit sound files and convert them.
Announcements for queues and digital receptionists may be uploaded in WAV format only.

do u know if "on hold music" is only used in digital receptionists and queues? Bc, if so, that means that it won't work with my free account.

If it works for any time I put a call on hold on my regular phone, then I guess I'll try diff audio formats

If by regular phone you mean analog, then no. Regular phones hold the calls by cutting the microphone, nothing more.

Caller should be able to hear music on hold. Just go trough the settings and make sure it's enabled.

I was never able to uploaded it to my home asterisk server usuing GUI. Only after I FTP it, it works.

They've been quite OK lately. Before, way to often my ATA would lose registration and needed Disable/Enable line trick to get it back on.

Also their server goes down once a month or two. The put paid accounts on back up but free ones have to wait. At least they send you an email when it happens.

When it does go down, how long is it unavailable?

I also have an IP phone. Both IP phone and ATA are connected via PBXes.

So you're saying if I pick up the IP phone when it rings, then put it on hold, the person calling should hear the on hold music? If so, it's not working.

You really should consider asking those questions to PBXes.org's forum.

I just googled this out: "Just press ## as before and transfer the caller to 70. This is the parking lot. You and the calling party are put on hold hearing music. To get the call off hold you need to press *0 then."

um.. any idea how to access the freephoneline voicemail if my number is set up with PBXes?

Before setting up my FPL number with PBXes, when i dialed *98, i got my FPL voicemail.

Now, when I dial *98 from my phone, I get "Welcome to Comedian Mail...", which I assume is the voicemail that's built into PBXes. But if someone calls my number and gets voicemail, they get my freephoneline voicemail.

Interesting problem. First of all, to get "full advantages" of using pbxes.org, you should disable the voicemail on your FPL account and use their voicemail instead. Otherwise you might have difficulties using features such as ring groups, as your FPL might pickup voicemail before the rest of your "system" is done ringing.

However, if you do want that, then I assume you will have to set a dial rule to map a certain number (maybe even *98 directly) to a specific trunk (your FPL account).

You need to disable *98 feature in Pbxes. Look for it in feature settings.

FPL voicemail cannot be disabled laurent.

thanks for the replies.

The only settings I see related to voicemail are the following (the value inside the square brackets are what the setting is set to)

General Settings > Extension prefix for dialing direct to voicemail > [*][/b]

Extensions > 100 > Voicemail & Drectory > [disabled]

Extensions > 101 > Voicemail & Drectory > [disabled]

OK> there you go. In:
General Settings > Extension prefix for dialing direct to voicemail > [*]

Can you change that prefix to something else, like [**] or [*9]?

Then make sure you have *98 in your dial plan for your FPL trunk and the outbound route.

I tried both ** and *9. Didn't work. I still get "Comedian Mail ... Mailbox?" when dialing *98

I also tried changing the * to a # for the sake of trying, and it still didn't work.

Then do this trick:
In your outbound route add:
98|*98
Also make sure your FPL trunk has:
*98
in it.

Then dial 98*98 to get to your FPL VM.
