Caller ID and Name

Postby desivibe » 03/28/2012

Hello,

I have had FPL for few months and has been working ok so far. When i receive calls i get callers number only but no name display. What settings do I need to change in order to get this working?
I have SPA-2100 client.

Thanks,

DV

Freephoneline does not do name lookups on incoming calls, so you will always see a number and not a name. This is not an issue of setting, it's an issue of cost as each name lookup through the CNAM database would cost freephoneline money. Since freephoneline is a free service, CNAM lookups are not provided.

Fongo actually uses all the information that it gets from regular PSTN which is normally only the originating phone number. The name of the caller has to be looked up in order to send it to you and as evilmonkey says cost money. Voip calls can carry more information so using a SIP client you may see both name and number at times. What Fongo does I think is check your Contacts list against the incoming number and if it finds the number there the persons name will be displayed and if not possibly all you will get is "Anonymous". So, if you put all of you callers in the contacts list you should usually see the name displayed when the phone rings.

In my case the caller ID and name are all shown.

I am using SPA-2102, when I place a call, the called people's phones are showing my # and my name which is input in my ATA (not the name in my FPL online account); when I am receiving a call, I can see the caller's #/name most of the time.

Some cordless phones do the Name look up as well and it depends on the exact connection method. One of my providers offers the name look up for 0.8 cents per call so not doing the look up is a significant saving.

Hi,

(new user here). :D

I was under the impression that Caller ID would also include the name as well.
I'm really a bit disappointed to learn about CNAM database and that it costs money. Although, I'd happily pay small fee to activate this feature.

However, here's a suggestion perhaps fongo can implement.
Our DECT 6.0 Panasonic cordless phone only stores 50 contacts, so outside callers will not be identified by name.
Is it possible to have a contact list (for individual users) on fongo VOIP servers that checks against the caller and delivers name as well?
It'd be really easy and one time hassle to add them in contact list from call logs we have online.
As a secondary solution, do VOIP ATAs have this feature?

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder, as has been provided in other threads, when the call display feature is enabled, it will only show the information that is being sent by the provider. if that provider only sends a number, we can only display a number. This is especially common for cell phone providers and a number of digital service providers.
