Porting my FPL number to another service provider

Post by andysiddell »

I know that you can port your existing phone number to Free Phone Line, but does anyone know if you can port your Free Phone Line away to another provider such as Bell or Cogeco?

Thanks

It's a requirement of porting. If you can port in, you can port out...

Yes, any number can be ported out as long as it has not been suspended or cancelled.

Thanks Mike,

the new Telco is asking for a copy of a recent phone bill for the numbers i wish to port, which of course we don't get from FPL.

I have tried calling Fongo accounts BUT you cannot speak to a real person to ask questions.

Therefore, could you please let me know what information I can get to provide to my new Telco, and how I can get it.

Many thanks.

I recently did a porting process from another VOIP carrier to Rogers, and all Rogers needed was a account number, and the address that was on the VOIP account. Rogers called my VOIP number to confirm I wanted that number ported over. The port took 5 days all told, it usually takes less than a couple of hours, but probably not with VOIP ports.

I do not see an account number from freephoneline, so you might have to give Telus your login details, and let them sort it out. Change your freephoneline password to something like "bellsucks", or whatever, to protect your login details if you reuse passwords.

Thank you very useful information.
I have emailed billing at FONGO requesting my account number, but have had no response so far.

I'm in the same boat. I would like to port my number from FPL to Nettalk, but I want to confirm what FPL information to give to Nettalk.

Generally speaking, most will accept a screenshot of the account page when you login to the account. Even in the back end, we don't have any extra details beyond what you can see :)

Does FPL have account numbers? The porting process requires an account number and a PIN. Not sure if FPL hS both?

They actually do have account numbers.

I emailed billing and they replied with my account numbers. Also, if you have ever purchased any long distance credits your account number will be on your invoice/receipt.

I have forwarded all of the information I have to my new telco, including account numbers, and hope they have all of the information they need. I have my new lines going in this Tuesday and I haven't received word that the port won't be going ahead. Guess I'll know soon.

Good luck!

Well I have had my phone numbers ported over from FPL to my new Telco today and everything went smoothly.
That said, I can still call out on my FLP line. Should this be the case?

I don't know, but FPL might have issued you a new phone number to replace the one you ported out. Or it could be that things have not been turned off completely yet.

What number does it show when you call out?

It was showing my old number, but I got a call from FPL around 4:30 today asking if I had requested my numbers to be ported away. When I confirmed I had and that they had been ported this morning, he insisted that the hadn't until he did something his end.

I didn't want to argue the fact that calls were already coming through to my new lines on my FPL number.

Anyway, after his call I tried to log into my FPL accounts and they have been completely closed.

Although my numbers are now working with my new Telco if I try and call them from my Fongo app it says "This Account Number Is Not Valid"

Maybe it will sort itself out and maybe I will have to contact them.

Either way i am just glad to be away from them for my main lines.
