No connection to server generally wouldn't be affected by changing the DTMF type.
You'll want to start by disabling all your firewalls and security software and see if that helps. If it does, then set the necessary exceptions.
If it doesn't, then you'll need to set your router to port forward UDP ports 13000-13001 and 6060-6061 to the PC using the softphone.

this is just weird - i have the audio port set at 13000, so i changed it to 5061, 13001, etc... and none worked. then i change back to 13000 and now it's connected. is that a bug or is my computer possessed?

Might be something to do with the router opening/closing ports when it sees traffic on them or something? I'm not sure.
Keep us posted if it keeps working or not. If not, might be time to setup the router's port forwarding rules then.

i know it's an old topic, but i still can't manage it lol i searched port forwarding for my router, added every port #, every option, and no luck. i guess the program doesn't like my router :(

What do you have for a router? The router might not be possessed, it just might not be a very good router! :) Sometimes a firmware update does wonders, other times manually forwarding ports does the trick, and then there are routers that are utter crap! :)

lol well it is a really old router, but i don't feel like buying a new one just for fpl if the router still works :P i'll try the firmware route and see how that goes :)

You probably just have to reconfigure your wireless settings such as access point name and encrpytion key.

Sometimes, uprgading firmwares resets a few parameters here and there.

weird. i did all this port forwarding (at least I was trying to) and didn't work. so just now i go into my router again, just for kicks (maybe i'll get lucky) and i set "tcp&udp" to "udp" and now the software is connecting fine. how is that possible if i had these exact settings at one point and it wasn't connecting, and now it is?! let's see how long this lasts haha

computers - aggh lol

Maybe I have this wrong, but are you trying to use the softphone on your laptop and desktop at the same time? If so, it won't work, you can only connect with one device at a time.

If not, then try just leaving it for a bit. Sometimes I have to leave my softphone on for a good 30 seconds or more before it connects. If you are switching from laptop to desktop quickly, it might be taking a little while for things to sort themselves out. Also clicking menu>restart has helped me in the past also.

i think i may have been running on both the desktop and laptop, i had both computers set to load the program upon startup. i turned it off on my laptop and restarted on my desktop, and still no connection to server. also tried changing ports, didn't work either. too weird. little confused because on this computer i got it to work flawlessly last night, and today broken lol

this topic is quote old, but i figure i'd give an update :)

recently i moved and formatted my pc, so i reinstalled fpl on my computer and magically everything was working perfectly. connected within seconds, no disconnections, all was good. but i noticed i couldn't login to my router settings page. so i did a power cycle of the modem and router, then realized my ip had changed. and when i tried logging into the program, no connection to server. i did all the port forwarding, closed my firewall, you name it.

i did realize something weird though. when i activate hotspot shield, and got an ip in the usa, the fpl program connects without incident. it asks me two ip addresses were found and which to connect to. one being the ip of my router the other the ip in the usa. when i don't run hotspot shield how come it doesn't ask me to use either my router ip or my actual ip? i'm confused lol is the program not connecting to my real ip address properly maybe? i also connected my computer to the router with a cable, and the program connected. so i guess it's something in the wireless connecting to the program that isn't working out.
