FPL software = virus [false alarm]

Post by zombie999 »

I don't usually use FPL softphone but today I tried to log in and got this warning.

9/22/2010 12:08:34 AM FreePhoneLine 2.2.3 © freephoneline.ca, Inc, 2007 Proactive Defense Detected: PDM.RootShell C:\PROGRAM FILES\FREEPHONELINE\FREEPHONELINE.EXE

9/22/2010 12:08:26 AM FreePhoneLine 2.2.3 © freephoneline.ca, Inc, 2007 Proactive Defense Detected: PDM.DNS Query C:\PROGRAM FILES\FREEPHONELINE\FREEPHONELINE.EXE Action selected according to the previous action

I got the DNS Query warning before, and that is ok.

But what about PDM.RootShell?

What anti-virus software are you using?

There is definitely no virus' in the softphone, so whatever client you are using is giving a false positive. If you can let me know what client it is, I'd like to get in touch with the company and report this, as it's obviously a bug in their software that will cause some disturbance.

I'm using Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011.
Version 11.0.1.400(a.b.)
Thanks.

Thanks - I'll look into this right away

Edit: After doing a little research around the web, it looks like Kapersky seems to give this error with a lot of Java applications, and even some other random applications (some users report getting it on Mozilla software). Due to the nature of this error, it looks like it's a Kapersky problem they'll have to sort out with their software. Since it isn't specific to our application only, I won't be able to get any help from them directly on it.

We will continue investigating in case there is anyway we can adapt our programming in future to prevent this error. You'll be fine to just add it to the "safe" or "ignored" list in Kapersky (I'm not sure how it handles allowed files)
