Software Campatibility with Mac OS X 10.4

Post by m_alagha »

Hi There,

I have just registered, activated and downloaded the application to use the phone service on my computer. When I checked the requirements to download the software it reads that the software can be run on Mac OS X 10.4 intel. I have a MacBook intel, with Tiger operating system (10.4.11). However, when I downloaded and installed the software I figured out that it needs Java 1.6 which is not available officially for Mac OS X 10.4 by apple and only a ported version is available through soylatte. I have that installed too but it is obviously not working for your application as it runs only for the shell. Every time I start the application, I receive a message saying the required Java version is not installed...Bla Bla Bla...

Is there anything I can do to run the software on Mac OS X 10.4.11? If there is no solution, you better remove this OS from the minimum requirements for the software to work.

This correction was actually supposed to be made a while ago, I'm not sure how it slipped through the cracks but do apologize for this. The softphone does require OS 10.5 or higher (unless you're able to get some of those third-party Java ports working in OS 10.4)

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but I've searched as best I can and can't find any other results.

The post here seems to suggest there's a mac version, but I can't find one. Would love to buy / subscribe to FonGo but I'm a Mac user so would need the software there.

Is it available somewhere then, and if not is it going to be any time soon? Thanks :)

Hi Carson,

When you log into your account on freephoneline.ca, go to settings, then downloads tab. From there you will have the option of downloading the Windows or MAC version of the softphone.

HI there! Thanks so much for your response. I don't have any account right now, I'd actually never heard of freephoneline.ca

What I thought I wanted was Dell Voice - but a version I could use on my Mac, iPhone, iPad etc.

I just got off the phone with customer service and it sounds like it's not possible. It's somewhat confusing though, here are my options as I understand them:

1) Go with Freephoneline.ca and get a line I can use on my app, but cannot use on iPhone, iPad, etc.
2) Go with Dell Voice and get a line I can use on my iPhone (only) but NOT my iPad without signing up and getting a whole new number again, and not on my mac through any means
3) Get 1 and 2 and forward one to the other

Ouch - seems kind of convoluted. Is either freephoneline going to offer an iPhone app, or is dell voice going to offer a Mac app? That will make the decision easier. I loathe Skype and would very much like to switch away from it. Thanks again!

Carson.

The app for your iphone, can also be downloaded to your ipad, only one of the two devices can be logged in at a time.

Freephoneline.ca does not currently offer a mobile app, but does offer a MAC friendly softphone you can use.

If you want to use a Fongo service on so many different devices, I would buy the config file from freephoneline, then you can use any sip device or ATA you like. Pretty much any OS/Device has a sip phone for free and you can even get an ATA and use it for your house line.

The only draw back is you can only connect one device at a time. Well when I say that you can connect more devices, but only the last one that registers will ring when someone calls in. You should be able to call out through any of the devices. There are ways to make all devices ring at once, but that requires the use of 3rd party software or hardware.

another option it is to have multiple accounts. Each device could be logged in to their individual accounts, with all calls forwarded to a specific number (i would suggest the one used on the iphone as we tend to keep our phones close)
