Blocked ports and Softphone

Post by marieneige »

Hi, I want to make sure ports are not blocked where I am going to install the phone line.
If I can use the Free Phone Line softphone on a computer up there, would it be a good test?
If the ports are blocked, will it be blocked on the softphone as well?
thank you very much!

If you can get the free client working perfectly on your setup, using a SIP device should work fine. The quality of your ISP, and the quality of your router are what makes for a bad VOIP experience.

The softphone isn't 100% like a SIP call, but as you mention you use Teksavvy in Montreal, I can tell you they don't block any ports, so it'll work fine.
