Softphone - Software question

Post by Bloodsong »

Looking in the FreePhoneLine folder I noticed a rather large .jar executable.
In fact it makes the .exe file look small.

Question 1: Is the .exe simply a GUI overlay to a java back end?
Question 2: Is the .jar file in control of the call and connection?

Thought: I have JRE for my Palm Treo 700p, would it be possible to use FreePhoneLine direct from my Palm's Java interface over the 3G network if an appropriate GUI were made, or if it were linked to the GUI which already controls out-calls through my Cell provider?

Addition: I also have a C/C++ compiler/run environment on my Palm Treo 700p, would it not be concievable to make the GUI for the first proposal using this compiler if not possible to do so in Java or the existing dialpad GUI?

Sorry for the late response.

The .jar file is the GUI/Features user interface yes.
The .exe is just what it says... Executes a script to run the program and it's features.

Awesome, keep in mind VoIP over 3G networks will have incredibly horrible packet loss.

I've been able to run reliable Skype over it in the past, this is why I think it's worth attempting in the future ;)

Skype does not use SRTP (SecureRTP), but uses encryption which is unique to the Skype provider. They also use VoVPN (Voice over VPN) and IPsec (IP Security) which I will let you read up on here

Ah, I've only ever been told Skype won't disclose their security practice, I didn't expect it to vary so much from how FPL has to do it.
I'm familiar with IPSec have a two-year in NetSec :D
