Softphone "Server Communication Error"

Postby dancel » 09/18/2009

I was able to use the softphone earlier this afternoon... I closed the application for a bit and, when I tried to open it an hour later, I get the following message:
Server communication occured [sic]! Please restart the application.

I have tried the following:
Clicking the OK button and trying to open the application again
Right-clicking the icon in my taskbar and selecting Restart
Repairing the installation through the installer
Removing and reinstalling the application
Restarting the computer
Repairing my Internet connection

BTW, I have excepted it in my firewall, so it's not that, either. Any suggestions?

try double checking your java installation. Freephoneline is java based, so if the java runtime environment has an issue it will also affect our program

I just finished reinstalling Java to no avail. Is the error specifically a Java-related one?

Oh, and I just restarted again and ran the updater. No dice. I can see the softphone itself; it's just that silly little error window that won't let me access the application.

Never mind. I figured out what the problem was. You folks were kind enough to change my phone number at my request, so I had to log out and back in again. Fixed!

No problem ;) -- I would assume someone phoned or emailed you correct?

On a side note, if you are going to port, or change your number at all make sure you are logged out of the softphone on the day we estimate your porting/number change is to be done or you'll experience this issue.

I'll update the softphone so it automatically logs you off after a port/number change/account deletion so we don't have these issues.

I am having the same issue. I too had to change my number. But how do I log out? I have to click on okay and after it just closes the program. How do I change the settings?

When you choose to log out it should restart the program displaying a log-in prompt

Do you see that little Softphone icon in your system tray when the app is running? Rick-click on it and select Logout. It will close the Softphone but, when you open it again, it should prompt you to log back in. That's what fixed my problem.

1) Uninstall FREEPHONELINE
2) Delete folder "FREEPHONELINE". For Vista "C:\USERS\USER\FREEPHONELINE" ("USER" is your user account)
3) Install FREEPHONELINE
It's all.

If that DOESN'T work, you may also have to delete the FreePhoneLine registry entry, which for some reason isn't taken out during uninstallation and will be fixed with the next release.

You can find this (XP) here -> My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FreePhoneLine <RIGHT CLICK> "Delete" <YES>
