Why Can't I Change My Username?

Post by FONGO_steve »

Update: username changes are now supported as of July 2011

We've had a lot of questions from users wondering why they can't change their username - ie. the email address you log into our website and softphone with.

I have looked into this with the programmers and here is the reason why we do not support this option:

Freephoneline is based around several systems working together; there's a "front end" that you see, and a "back end" that's chugging away processing all the accounts, call routing, voicemail, etc.
When you register, the email you use to register is being linked to your account in all these different systems. Due to the way everything works, it would be impossible for us to create a way to change this username without creating you a whole account. Think of it like Skype or MSN - when you register you can not change that initial username or email address without registering a new account and re-adding all your contacts - our system is the same.

However, you can easily change the correspondence email in your account which is the email we reach you at should we ever need to email you.

Hope this clears things up
