How can I disable auto-renewal for LD credti?
I would like to turn off auto-renewal since FPL starts charging connection fee. How can I do it without purchasing extra credit?

indeed, I too would like to disable auto-loading. While I was happy to give my LD to freephoneline in the past, the way this latest "connection fee" fiasco was handled makes me rethink things.

TheHardy, It's quite simple. They will loose out on more money with future purchases from their clients.
I bought $20 of credits with FPL to help support FPL and the awsome service they have, and I can find better and cheaper long distance with VoipDiscount with their 10 Euro (~$18 CAD) top up for 180 days of free calling to north america, then it costs 1.7 cents Euro thereafter until I top it up again. This was a way I used to do it with Bell, and now with FPL introducing these fees, AND IN COMBINATION with their new tarrif changes (St Margrets Bay in Nova Scotia USED to be free, now it's not), I'll never buy credits with FPL again. I actually decided to buy credits for FPL because the only family we call that wasn't covered by the free calling area is her dad in Muskoka region, and i didn't mind paying FPL a premium for convenience. I bought $20 voucher, and just before this tarrif change and the connection fee was implemented, i had a balance of around $18 left as we don't call her dad a lot. Her sister and mother live in Nova Scotia, which was free, and they talk daily. My balance now is $12.86 - in less than 2 weeks, and we just had our first baby son born on the 13th, so it's not going to stop. I'm now going to use up the minutes and switch back to VoipDiscount.

You are absolutely right in that - vote with your feet is about the only way to make yourself heard. Then again, with at least some of their employees active in the forum, the feedback and negative reception should at least get back to someone ...
I did notice that there have been significant changes in the areas that are covered as "FREE" calls, but there was no mention of this anywhere, officially. I hate playing the guessing game, or having to check the rate-lookup on a daily basis. Was the re-alignment part of a planned (but unannounced) expansion? Was it an error? I do know that the "old" tariff had some errors in it, as it was piecemealed together -- I took advantage of a few of those, I admit.
End of the day, I will continue to use FPL for the "local" side of things, and now that I am employed again, I will seek out alternatives for the "toll" side of things -- the new pricing structure makes their "toll" service very unattractive, notwithstanding the fact of how it was brought in, under cover of darkness and then sprayed with cologne to not smell like the steaming pile of "used cow fuel" that it is.

To disable auto-renew you can simply go to the long distance credits purchase page, purchase no voucher, and then un-check the auto renew function.

I will not add any more because I switch back to Callexpress which is also a Canadian company in Burnaby, BC. It charges 1 penny to call most places over the world.

If you were "forced" to add a voucher to unselect autorenew, why did you chose a $20 as opposed to a $5?? The logic escapes me. Sorry if I am not understanding something there, but it seems odd. If the system FORCED you to purchase $20, and you still have that remaining as a credit, AND it just occurred, perhaps a call to customer service to get the transaction reversed/cancelled would be in order?

Last night my $20 worth of credits ran out. I have 2 cents left in credits, but that's not even good for 1 minute now. I've since switched back to VoipDiscount, now I can enjoy 120 days of free North America calling, and then it reduces my $10 balance at 1.7 cents per minute. Way cheaper than FPL.
BTW, a note to show that within 1.5 months, I used up about $18 in long distance charges. VoipDiscount is only 10 Euro, which right now is only about 14 CAD, and I get 4 months of free calling north america wide.
Anyways, it's just too bad. That's life.

Not too badly off topic, as it follows along the lines of how they shot themselves in the foot a bit with the connection charge, especially on DOMESTIC LD calls. I agree that 4c/call is too high on NA-wide calling, and makes the effective per minute rate unreasonable on short duration calls (ie under 3 mins).
C'est la vie, at least maybe until FonGo rolls out and we get to see what wonders it has to offer!
